This is my first post here, but I bought this bike the other day:

When I purchased it I was told it was '99 650, and the stator was gone on it. The stator is mounted on the engine behind the flywheel.

Well from my searching on here and the rest of the internet those graphics and stator position it would be a '95/'96?

I won't have access to the bike until Friday(parked at a friends house) so I can't get the numbers off the bike till then, but can anyone give me some insight into the bike.

BTW I got it for $300 so I should have gotten a decent deal, just hoping I didn't order the wrong stator for it.

Yup, looks like a 95, would be a 600 not 650.

If its been sitting for awhile I would clean out the fuel tank with a strong degreaser, disassemble and clean the fuel taps, fuel pump and carb. Replace all the fuel line too.

i see that bike has a beaver creek sticker on it. they were berg dealers from outside of lisbon, oh back in the late 90's. burned me on a returned chain guide refund
in addition to what eric says: smart money would also dictate pulling the cam cover off and check the condition of the cam bearings, chain and rocker/rollers

yeah thats beaver creek...I called them about parts for it and they were very rude....don't think I'll be going back there.

I have the tank at my house now...completely empty and dry....already replaced all hoses and cleaned the on/off.

anyway I guess its not all bad, doesn't the stator from the KTM's fit the pre '99 models?

if you want to do it right, get a Sparks rewind. there are several vendors, such as motoxotica and our very own taffy, that carry them.

I plan on sending my stock one into him over the winter, for now I'm just going to look for a cheap used one so I can hopefully get a little riding in with whats left of summer.

I may be able to help you out w/ an SEM for your bike. I've got one lying around that should work.

That would be awesome, shooting you a PM.

Alright checked the numbers today, its a '95 600 w/ electric start.

ordered the wrong plug, going to pick up a new one tomorrow.

Today I

Changed the oil
Replaced all fuel hoses
Cleaned carb/fuel switch
blead the brake system
replaced clutch handle
New seat screws
New ignition switch(thanks Kzoo)
pulled flywheel off

The clutch is kinda stiff, is this normal or just because its been sitting for a while?
