Colin Mc Rae RIP!

Yes, terrible news.
Apparently the helicopter crashed sometime yesterday (Saturday) afternoon, but it's only just been confirmed this afternoon (Sunday) that it was Colin.
There were 3 passengers in the helicopter with Colin, all dead.
One was Colin's 5 year old son and another passenger was a 6 year old boy.
Colin & his brother (Alistair) occassionally rode at my local MX tracks on their quads and they were both unbelievably quick guys.
It's only been a few years since we lost Steve Hislop (Multi-British Superbike champoin), also in a Helicopter crash near his home in the Scottish Borders.
My condolencies go out to Colin's family & friends.

yes it's terrible news and like ross i thought of hizzy as well. when you think of the guys that die after winning world titles - especially from the UK it's amazing!

i can't forget a question from a BBC commentator to which colin said with a huge smile: "nay problem tony!!!".

mike hailwood and george o dell on the same day, mike hawthorn, the other rally world champion (names gone), graham hill, and if i think about it - a few more as well.

I believe it was Richard Burns Taff.

Very sad to hear about this as well.
I learned about this last night but was hoping it wasn't him.

froggy not very tactful. this could have been worded better.

what we know so far is that the helicopter went down for reasons unknown.
onboard were colin, his 5 yr old son , his sons 6 yr old friend and another adult who was also a family friend.

complete tradgedy for all the families involved.

never met colin but have been out riding with his brother, Alistare
the whole family is motorsport mad as colin has demonstrated by competing in dakar, x games etc. what is less well know is that they were all bike nuts as well, having quads and enduro bikes and thrashing them like he did rally cars.

apparently the helicopter went down about 1600 yesterday evening not far from his home.
confirmation has been slow on the occupants because of a large fire after the crash. havng dealt with 2 plane crashes i can imagine what the emergency services faced and makes me feel more for the families.

they were saying tonight that the helicopter didn't sound right before it crashed.

the owner of pro-drive, dave richards, who runs the subaru rally team, and for who McRae drove for many years, has been involved in a helicopter crash as well luckily he and his wife got out with minor injuries.
