welcome to UHE mate and if i can ask you to trawl 'the doc' which you can see on your right you'll find a few answers to a few questions in there. if the bike doesn't respond to the throttle it's because it's running lean.
there can be two reasons for this. the first is that the choke jet is TOO BIG and you therfore pushed the button in very quickly. now, without choke you are lean. the answer is to put a smaller choke jet in.
if it does it after a good warm up (IYHO) then you need to turn the pilot screw out in 0.5 turn increments till it's better. the PS is under the belly of the carb. you can modify electricians screwdrivers to work, go to SUDCO and buy a 'kouba T' or if you can get your hands on an imperial 'block connector' you can again do an el cheapo for yourself. pictures of this are in 'Gallery' and then 'Taffy'.
the popping will ease when the carbon build up blocks the gaps along the pipe and stops raw air (including oxygen) from joining unburnt gases in the pipe where you get a secondary ignition.
if you want to get really radical, please give me the code from your needle in the carb. it will say OB then three more letters. from this i can put you onto a needle that will richen the idle and just off idle condition.
for a real rocket that does everything, call lineaweaver for a special needle that'll cost but is worth the dosh.
