just a quick question.when refitting the clutch cover on a 03 650,does anyone use a sealant especially round by the kickstart behind the frame.have used hylomar blue before now but always seem to get some on the gauze on the sump plug.im worried this has been around the engine and could block oil ways.thanks

on a new gasket I coat the engine side in loctite 518 press the gasket on and put anti sieze on the clutch cover side, can re use it loads of times, if the gasket is stuffed RTV silicone is best for filling big gaps put the cover on "loose" then tighten up properly the next day

I have one bike that has only the gasket and its perfect.
Another that has a very bad cover and could only seal it with loctite 5926 (blue silicone) on both sides and with the gasket, and the technic of bushie, just a litle tight wait a few hours and then 8 or 9 N.m. (just).
Don't try without the gasket like I did, the kick wont work right.

On my 650 a smear of high temp wheel bearing grease both sides works fine, as it does on most paper based gaskets in most applications. No issues with excess either.
On my 501 there aren't enough bolts to get it tight enough on the clutch cover, so some White or Grey 3 Bond does the trick, ans anoted above, 'less is more'.
