As with every service the i-net provides, people will learn to exploit it and this is the case with the classifieds system.
It's nothing new, but it's becoming more predominant in classifieds systems where someone wants to give you a "certified check" from their "client" in return for your ride. Then the check bounces and you're out a bike.
Well, finally one of the frigging morons actually posted a public comment on the system so I could record his IP address. As is often the case with this particular scam, the IP originates in Germany(don't feel bad German friends, You could be the home of the Nigerian email fraud). So checking his history, I found that he has 1,200 page hits..... ALL IN THE CLASSIFIEDS SECTION. So I banned the IP, but all he has to do is find a blind proxy and he's back up and running in no time.
So what will be happening will be this:
No more emailing from classified service
No more anonymous comments
that should at least make it tougher for them to hit so many people so quickly.
he can't pm if he's anonymous, and if he registers it will be really easy for me to catch his traffic patterns.
SO: if you're placing classifieds, be sure to go back to check on them! People will no longer be able to email you through the system, so anonymous users will ONLY be able to contact you via the message system in the classifieds section. Registered users will be able to PM or leave a message in the classifieds.
If you receive any kind of contact from one of these people, please forward the message(complete with headers if it's an email) to my mail account so I can block the IP that it originated from.
