hi all, i'm new to the site and new to bergs, just aquired one and it ran like a bag of spanners at just above tickover, spitting back and blowing the carb off, ive checked the usual things , valve clearance , carb , plug gap, also even though it was like this it used to start realy well, but now it starts when its in the mood, its a pig to start and i havent realy done anything? but i suspect the stator being to blame. Q for anyone who knows , what voltage and ampage does the generator coil in the sem send to the cdi and what is the minimum amps/volts to create a spark good enough to start the bike reliably, also can this voltage be taken from anywhere else I.E the lighting circuit or a battery, has any one done this or blown a cdi trying !, the bike is a 95 fc501.these after market rewound sems sound good but must have a couple more feet of copper wire to get such a fat spark? thanks for looking..

Hi, scrapview, and welcome aboard!! Try this link to the electrical section of "Owner's Doc" from the left hand menu in yellow background -
http://www.husaberg.org/wiki/index.php/Electrical It should give ya the info you need.
The Owner's Doc is a compilation of excellent info on Husabergs old and new, all provided by members of this site, mostly under the watchful eyeballs of Taffy. When he could see

Hi Scrapview, welcome to the site, two things can you check the resistance of the stator windings and second do what I call a spark performance test where you remove the plug and cap place HT lead 10mm from Cylinder head away from the plug hole and on a normal kick should jump this gap quiet easily.
If intermittent or you have to close the gap then suspect stator.

RE: Re: cdi /coil/ generator winding.

hi all again, iv'e just been out to the bike and it kicked up when cold,i rode it for a couple a minutes and then it started to do the hit and miss thing at low rpm (spark interupted) so it is defanately an electrical problem and it will not start again at the mo, but i can guarrantee it will start again if i leave it to cool,if i can find a way around using those rubbish energising coils on the sem then i will, even if i have to fit a japanese motorbike cdi and coil, i can still trigger it from the trigger coil in the sem , but i would realy like to know if anyone has used an alternative power source to feed the husaberg cdi/coil, it seems to me that this sem windings problem is the only real bad issue with bergs, so why do they have to be used, all they do is charge up a capacitor in the cdi , the trigger coil then gives the cdi a pulse and the capacitor dumps the saved power into the ignition coil windings ,hence you get a spark, i recon ive seen more advanced lawnmower ignition systems ! lol......i dont think that a constant dc feed will work , i believe it needs to be ac , if i knew exactly what voltage properties the berg cdi/coil needed then i am sure i can devise a way to alternatively power the the thing up reliably, i'm sure you would all like to do the same if you got the chance, someone out there must have accomplished this.....facts and figures would be nice anyone...........regards ....ian

RE: Re: cdi /coil/ generator winding.

goto sems charging replaicemet, author OYK. And ? wait for it?, it turns out that all that was wrong with my berg was a duff brand new ngk spark plug! so when you buy a new plug buy 2 or 3 just to make sure, and it may save you the trouble and expence that i have ecountered.........ian (crappy ngk)

hey scrap....pm sparks......he's the resident electrical specialist. several of us have had him rewind stators with alarming success. if its electrical problems..he has the answers.

RE: Re: cdi /coil/ generator winding.

yeh , thanks dude we allready spoke , and he is the man to speak to if you need a rewind...ive sorted it now believe it or not it was a duff brand new spark plug, i renewed the plug because the bike was unreliable, but it was just the same with the new plug , hence all the trouble ive had assuming the new plug was good as you would expect it to be, so never trust a new plug ,try a couple then rip the bike to bits if it dont go.

I just got this bike as well and just got a new stator that tests good on multimeter but am looking for correct spark plug to go with new wiring as it did not come with a spark plug in it. got 3300 ohms green to black and about 20 red to black. I also have to find intake manifolds for carburetor as they were broken off

stop using old threads fella, start a thread on your bike and your needs.

The stator should give 1,750 red to black and 23 ohms green to black. the green to black will be good and the red to black the problem. your figures are hopelessly wrong so its broken or you didn't do it right.
