Cant Start FE650e, Upgraded Battery, had $1100 spent on it at shop, rewired all wiring due to corosion, put in new iridium plug. fresh high quality fuel,. When she goes it goes like a rocket, Backfires when backing off tho. love the bike and how it rides just hate how it doesnt start easily. when e started it was cranking nicely but now its stoping at a point and wont move until you stop and crank it over again does it turn?. Hard bike to kick with so much compression even when trying diferent techniques. HELP>>>>>>

It sounds like the auto and semi-auto decompression may not be working or out of adjustment. The auto decompression spring on the cam may be wore out and would make it next to impossible to start with the electric starter. Also, the semi-auto cable is most likely out of adjustment which makes kick starting very difficult. If you don't have the owner's manual for the bike you can download one from http://www.husaberg.com/Downloads.33.0.html and it will show you the proper proceedure for adjusting the decompression cable. One other thing, your ignition may be on it's way out. I had to replace the one on a '02 FE650 I used to have. But before you do that, make sure the ignition is properly grounded and all connections are tight. And lastly, the carb jetting may be a bit lean or you may have an air leak which is making it lean. I put a richer needle jet (274) in my '02 FE650 and that made an improvement. As I recall, I left the pilot jet alone.

If everything is adjusted correctly and working properly your bike should be very easy to start with the kick starter - cold or hot. The trick is proper technique. I get the motor up on compression, pull in the manual decompression lever and get the piston just past TDC, release the decomp lever, let the kick lever return to the top and give it a firm kick through the complete travel of the k/s stroke. The electric starter on my '02 FE650 worked best for re-starting - not cold starts. The later bikes came with more powerful electric starters.

you need to upgrade to the 2004+ auto decomp on the cam if you can. that is a majotr difference. I sell this with a stronger spring I do.
the carb needs to be refreshed every few years as the atomiser and needle wear badly and they start with too large a choke jet so I again - do a little kit for these.
stick a really strong iridium plug in always always.

If you want to get really serious about why then remove the head and check that the inlets aren't sinking into the head. I would say 75% chance that they are unless ridden by a little old lady before you!

the ignition mark through the inspection hole wants to be 1mm to the left of centre, check with a strobe and it'll either be at 6d BTDC at a good idle or it'll be near 12d. take either but also adjust to get either only + or - 1mm.

check how much cam chain life you have left as well as they can turn the cam back 15 crank degrees.

regards

Taffy
