im thinking of selling up my old r1 and saving up and buying a second hand bike up to around 8k in australia, will want motard tyres on it aventually and primary use it on road get back into big wheelies and going nuts [NOT MAIN ROADS] not as a daily rider just something can take out n cut sick [NOT RACE IM 100KG AND 6 1 i owned wr 450 few years back so im not a full on 4 stroke noob but only ridden motard bike wounce.herd the 650 same weight as 570.as i wont be racing or riding it every day would like a bike that just needs its oil changed n filters n every now n then check valves and down the track aventually get a piston kit when it need it,so which is more reliable which has best power n handles rembering im a big bloke. and WHICH is best to work on.herd good things about the 09 570 but u guys will be the judges of that.570, OR, 650 AND WHY HAVE YOUR SAY REGARDS TAS.

Hmmm ... you can't really go wrong with either. At all. Both are absolute magic.

The character is quite different - try both if you can. For example the 570 handling is on the agile side, 650 on the stable side. I'd take whichever you find a sweet deal on, all else being equal.

570 is smoother, 650 is wilder. 570 is still pretty wild and the 650 is still very controllable.

As I understand it the 650's got progressively more reliable through the years so a later bike is probably more desirable.

thanku people so friendly here:}cool so being a big bloke if i can get a good deal on a 650 maybe the way to go? but what are the better model 650s? u saying o7 mod o8 model good? I WILL HAVE TO DO READ UP ON THE 650S as i dont know much about them.do they need a jet kit and pipe get them going properly,i rode my mates 2010 husky 610 stock was gutless prob as weighed 140kg<now its jetd with pipe has more bite still 2 heavy tho>berg way to go;p any other mods are a must on the o7 o8 650 regards tas

Yep, the '07 and '08 were the most reliable oldschool motors afaik. Stronger cases amd whatnot.

No, they don't need anything really :) these bikes are explosively powerful straight out of the box, super lightweight too.

excuse me for sounding dumb, but im looking at the models and the bikes some are fe and some fs so im guessing fe650 means enduro and fs means supermotard? obviously e has offroad wheels and s has motards, but my question is could i buy a fe and put motard wheels on it for the road, or should i find fs model as i will be on road mostly? OR are these bikes the same besides the wheels, or are they completly diffrent, thinking they may be geard diffrent and suspension would be diffrent?? then again dont know<i see fe models for sale in my area but no fs :(regards tas

The suspension is shortened about an inch to an inch and a half on a FS. It also has heavier springs. The only other difference is the fork leg is different, for the radial brake.

Radial = the caliper attaches radially to the fork. Bolts on the same plane as the rotor, like a sportbike.. it's a stronger setup.
FE has an axial mounted caliper, bolted perpendicular to the rotor.

That radial brake makes it near impossible to run a 21" wheel on the radial FS fork. The spokes hit the massive caliper.

The triple clamp offset is different as well to have the correct trail.

Heres an FE with supermoto wheels;

thanks idle would have had no idear,so what do i need to do to an fe to turn it into supermoto, fs calipers and disks, caliper adapter to bolt on forks fs rims/tyres,would i need chain and sprockets,fs triple clamp wow is that all? what else have i missed? how much is the warp9 sm conversion kit?does that include everything u need? might be worth doing if i find a good deal on an fe,570/650 or travel further find fs, least i know it hasnt been up the bush getting thrown down flat out i believe ppl tend to take more care of on road bikes[UNLESS ITS BEEN NEGLECTED] rather than offroad vechiles{atleast with me,regards tas

I have a converted 2010 FE 570 and there is some parts sourcing you will have to do but I shopped around and got good prices on parts like 14* Billet triples Radial brakes etc. parts I can remember to complete to FS spec are.

1. I got FBI to revalve/spring my suspension with radial fork leg was around $600
2. I had Marchesini wheels from a previous KTM but the Warp 9's are a lot less around $600 used to about $1200 new.
3. Remapped ECU W/Akra map + JD tuner $250
4. KTM hard parts 14* billet triples bought from Torque Monster $350 I think
5. KTM 310mm rotor bought from KTM world on sale for $175
6. KTM SMR radial MC/line caliper $150 bought on SMJ
7. Akra slip on bought on here $250
8. FS white plastic kit +FS headlight $350 from Appalachian off road
9. Trail tech Vapor $150 on eBay but you can re-program stock speedo
10. Vortex 13/42 sprockets & chain from HMC racing $130
11. Axle block sliders & front sliders bought from HMC racing for $125
12. Adige slipper clutch from HMC racing $650

Total $3780 USD but cut that down by taking off slipper/Plastic/speedo/Re-map & slip on
by $1550 but I would recommend the slipper clutch my HMC Berg is so sweet with that thing. I bought the bike for $5000 with 900k on it so I have $8780 in it, and it is very close to equal to the HMC Berg Minus the Beringer brakes & clutch MC.

If you just want a ball tearer with loads of grunt, go the 650! If you want something with similar but smoother grunt that handles and stops better, go the 570! I know alot of guys on here will argue for the older bergs ( they are awesome, dont get me wrong) but with both in standard form the newer ones are simply all round better. I love the older bergs ( still have a couple) but to me its a no brainer!

I have an 08 fe650 and would think that in supermoto trim you would want the 650 for its extra grunt.

Hi, it is my bike that Idle linked you to; and, it has worked out fine so far.

I got the conversion kit for my 2005 fe650 from Motorcross | Supermoto | Motocross Racing | Excel Motocross . It came with the tubes and tires installed, aired, and balanced on the 17" rims. I got a small tire upgrade and a new chain; and, it cost a little over $1300, including shipping to my home. The package came with rear sprocket, oversized front disc rotor, and an adapter for relocating the caliper. Everything bolted up perfectly.

Hope this helps.

Steve

awesome info guys least i know if i cant find fs model fe can be done, sounds like 650 going to be the go,might have to take that cash offer for me yami now i know the bike il be looking for,il hold out for the 07 08 model, only seen 03s-05 WHERE I AM, some cheap some expensive, how many ks could i expect to get on a piston not raced with regular oil changes filters valves adjustd?,havnt heard anything bad about the stock valves on the later 650s they must be a goodin:] regards tas

For sure, if you can find a good late model fe 650, then go for it; but, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on an earlier model that has been well cared for.

Also, it is my opinion that if you can afford to get an fe, and then an sm conversion setup, that is the way to go. It is MUCH more expensive and difficult to convert an fs to an enduro. That way, within an hour or two you can swap wheels back and forth. Just remember to turn the chain tensioners around and cut the chain to a length that will work on both sprockets.

Either way, you'll be getting one of the best power to weight ratio bikes of its kind. Most people I've met who have just a passing knowledge of Husaberg are shocked to find out how little this bike weighs and how much torque it makes.

Be patient and a good deal will find you.

Good luck in your search.

Steve

yeah mate i been researching bikes for last couple weeks and cant go past husaberg with the power to weight ratio, and being so reliable for something so powerful,at 1 stage i was thinking aprillia 550 as those things go like cut cat,but being a vtwin and me not being a mechanic i know would cost a fortune for repairs[twice the chance of something going wrong] where is a rebuild on a husa seems much more basic should be able to do most of the work my self with a couple mates in the shed, while its apart do people put hot cams in these suckers or they probably wouldnt need em??we got a stage 2 hot cam for me old xr400 lost its instant power off the line but power came on way harder, with big sprocket on back could get the old girl in top gear on back wheel,n that was a dirty old xr cant imagine how the husaberg 650 gonna go lol also been watching them on toutube some of the bikes have like a slight wind sound like when u put a pod filter on a car,is that because they have changed to a diffrent air filter or is it or could be an unhealthy sound,as i have herd a bike sound like that before and the owner said it had engine trouble??regards tas

Tas, yeah the Husaberg rattles a bit at idle, but it pretty much goes away on throttle, when the note becomes that ominous growl.

Took a quick look at dyno results, and found these stats:

Aprilia 550 - 300 lbs curb 62 hp and 35 lbft

Husaberg 650 - 271 lbs curb 60 hp and 45 lbft

Most reviews agree that the Husaberg outpulls the Aprilia by a good margin early on, with the Aprilia pretty easily pulling away at the upper end.

Good luck.

Steve

that's been my experience at the track, my berg owns off the start vs. the 550 priller. At the end of the straight, the priller catches and sometimes passes. Still, rather have my 650 vs. a grenade, err Aprilia. The 570 is more durable, slower (slightly, and I mean Slightly) and likely a better all around kind of bike than the FS650. I'd love to have both! (And I'd never want the Aprilia)

Im like u Tas "only new" If you want sumthing bad enough , somtime you'll have to be willing to travel? FS getting harder to come by ? from time to time they pop up, be quick thou exspecially for a good one. I wanted 650's long time ago. Other personal reason stop me. After having xr 600's ktm 640 lc4. Ive travel over 2000kms pick mind up "Fe" Was told a few time go for 570 Fs . Depends how much u want to spend? , I'll have to say I wasnt 100% happy of condition but she had only 980 kms & 28hrs "wif service Book" on the clock, for a 5 year old girl. Was another one looking at "Fe" had 5500 kms wif "motard & knobby rims plus tyres & bits ,little less but ran out of Rego's.
Keep close eye on Gumtree & bike point , papers ,trading post
12 month on 1600kms "total" . In the end Im very happy way its performs like pple say change oil more offend & maintain it
Vibrate ? naaah... not that bad "to me anyway" not after me ktm640" (understand 570 would be smoother)
Motor..... I LoooVE it "Sweeeet"
Suspension.... need to be play wif for my likeing Im only 168cm 73kg weight "im only a little fella"
power to weight..... better than xr6 & ktm 640
Steering far better as above
Parts ... plenty of ways getting them & atless u know oil filter same ktm's "long"

hope some helpful for ya
Happy hunting
Jas

I remember reading in the DOCs that the '05 model 650 got the crank and bearing upgrades that cured the previous model's failures. The consensus was/is that the '04+ 450/550 were considered reliable and '05+ 650's. Here's what I remember about the 650's:

'05-crank and bearing failures resolved, but front tire rubbed header, back rubbed rear muffler. (I bought one new)

'06-new no rub header and muffler brackets, suspension upgrades

'07-better engine cases, billet triples, Akrapovic slip on, better suspension

'08-much improved suspension (like the KTM's)

This is just going off memory, I bet if you shot Taffy a PM he'd know more.

that seems right on husky

except and only FWIW the 07 and 08 OC forks are renowned worldwide as being fabulously crap

regarding the engine; from Dr_Cs you tube channel

Hi David! I would recommend the 2005 model. It has Kokusan ignition system and the smaller stroke crank. With that model you should get away with just regular oil/filter shift (non racing use is around 10 hours) and an occasional valve clearance check. If your budget is tight, the 2003 would be the second best choice. The older models, will not "blow up", in my opinion, but there were significant changes made to the 2003-model.

/Mats

the 04 650 has a full circle 82mm crank with a 32mm pin but is fitted with a Kokusan ign
