camchain stretch

checked the 'old style' camchain against the new one for stretch. found a difference of just slightly under one link-that's 7mm!!!!!

i think i've had the old chain on there for a season and a half to two seasons. that 7mm is about 3.2mm on the sides and therefore has rotated the cam back 3 degrees!

just think though-what would it be like with the OEM chain?

so if you're running a hot motor remember that to keep good cam timing you may be looking at a new camchain per season!

ok grok

the basic information is in the info sheet that you can link to at the bottom of my post. the package says;

timing chain 80L
501 89-93
H-200.045.01
made in sweden

it was a sealed package and you get a split link and have to break about 10 links off. it's heavier duty with thicker plates and in a darker hue. you'll also see a photo in my gallery.

Hey Guys,

From Taffy's description, it sounds like a Regina chain. It is the only chain maker in Sweden that I know of. The picture looks like my Regina chain, and if Taffy were to look at the side plates, he will see the name of the manufacturer embossed. Still have the links handy you removed Taffy?

Isn't Regina Italian?

You are correct, I'm sorry. I for some reason had remembered the red packages as stating 'made in Sweden'. The packages are gone, the chains are in the bikes, but the extra links I cut off for the 04 550 do say Regina on the connecting side plates, I just checked.

I purchased the chains from Motoxotica, as part number 200 045 02, but I asked for a regina chain and he had them in stock, 78 links.

I found one dealer, tried five, in Sweden that sells Regina timing chain. The package is red. The rest only sell IWIS.

I was told that Husaberg used Regina -92-01 but
timing chain 80L
501 89-93
H-200.045.01
Made in Sweden
gives -94 instead. Which brand used before Regina I do not know.

there are 31 outer plates and the split link makes 32. right got that outta my system...

now then, each plate has 'regina CHR' stamped in.

Taffy

Gentlemen,
As of late Regina chain has been that of a split roller design albeit packaged and sold under the same part number for which the solid roller design had been provided for nearly a decade. Such could be the result of a simple packaging error, however, I do indeed have in front of me OEM Husaberg Regina chain that is of a split roller design.

Thanks for the info Taffy.

I was a little confused by the reference to old, new and oem chains, for a minute I thought you had unearthed a chain from the after market!
BTW, I have all your owners docs downloaded, they are a useful resource. Thanks again for your efforts.

Just a small question revealed. Is not the OEM Husaberg Regina chain similar to the standard Regina chain timing chain?

Fellow Bergers,

Regina is stopping making timing chain.

The following E-mail correspondense is from Regina, in response to my inquiry regarding the sudden absense of 'Timing Chain' from their web site.

Regards,

Joe

Dear Mr. Schuster,
We haven't included the timing chains as we are stopping our production of those chains.

Good morning,

I have been using Regina C121HCS timing chain in my Husaberg
motorcycles, and occasionally referred to your web site for technical
information. Since you have redesigned your web site all reference to
'Timing Chain' has been eliminated.

Do you still manufacture timing chain and if so, will you please add it
to your product reach on your web site.

Is there some reason you have eliminated technical information (chain
specifications) from your web site?

Thank you for your help,

Joe Schuster

Said chain is indeed one in the same. Unfortunately as a result of limited British Standard chain demand many manufacturers now private label inferior chain from outside manufacturers.

I believe that someone on here said that the 05's come with DID cam chains, is this true? If so, is this chain comparable to the Regina or at least better than the iwis?

I was attempting to avoid this topic until my return from Florida, however, as a result of several Emails and this thread I shall state the following:

I have in the past used a very expensive premium 06B chain manufactured locally that is of both solid bushing and solid roller composition. Said chain is available with 1/2 links which is how I came to be familiar with the product.

Chain must be purchased in large quantities most often a minimum of 3,100 links. I have made arrangements to purchase in bulk and distribute said chain to those that are interested. Chain is scheduled for delivery to coincide with my return home mid March. Cost will be per link and determined via my final delivery invoice. Master links are of clip retention design and sold separately as are 1/2 links.

Kind Regards,
Dale

I suspect that my cam chain has also stretched. Before I spend the money on a new one, how would I measure the amount of stretch? Is there a length per link tolerance? I own a '95 350. Thanks

A mechanician at Husaberg Scandinavian told me so when I asked for information about the main bearings since these were not the original and he had build the engine. Since he has build racing engines for Martin Lind her probably has build other racing engines as well. He said that the DID chain has worked very well this far.

I have read alittle of what seems to be concern about cam chains here.In the last couple of weeks with bergs campaign to warrant 02 models
rockers & balancers, I have noticed in the 4 i repaired it seemed each needed chains, but i also was installing new 05 cam sprockets (steel with built in decomp stops) that chain had hardly stretched at all.

sleep well fellow bergers! :D

am I reading this right? Is the factory repairing 02 models under warranty??? I've got an 02 470 that I've recently noticed what sounds to me like cam chain noise. is this something that might be fixed under warrenty??
