BOSS Gets New Bike!!

The specs say that it has excellent resistance to cuts and abrasion, since this part can have a rough life hangin out there in the breeze , this would be an advantage to the racers.

I am more impressed that it resists cracking from ozone!

Besides being blue and pretty, what does this hose do? Reduce the coolant temperature?

You can't be serious Frog. Are you really wondering if a blue hose reduces coolant temp? Yes, a blue hose makes her cooler while a red hose heats her up! No wonder Taffy flings you so much *****!

:D Log :D

LeFrog I aplogize for that there, and all the pygmies in New Guinea.
(In my best Larry the Cable Guy voice).

It is what the manufacturer claims on their Web site. You should direct the laughter at goodyear.

I doubt the manufacturer's claim, therefore I asked Boss the reason why he has installed that type of hose and if the reason was for heat dissipation.

Yet, it is possible that Goodyear has manufactured a hose which allows for greater heat dissipation without losing in solidity.

The color has nothing to do, if it was pink I guess they would not sell as many. Blue is nice if you have a Berg, a Husqy or a Yammy, but it's not the main selling point for me.

My question remains: has Boss seen any reduction in coolant temperature since he's been using this type of hose.

I've been wanting to do away with the stock FE mess of hoses/Tstat anyway (I have already gutted the thermostat), and when I saw Rick's set up, I called him and got him to fix me up. Super easy deal, and seems like a cool dude.
Thanks Rick!

lefrog one of the thinggs that this hose set up is suppused to do is allow for a quicker heat up time, it eliminates the thermostat.atleast that is what i remember boss telling me. i can't remember if boss siad that it wouold run cooller or not. i do know however that i have boiled my 06 fe 450 over twice, but it was on VERY steep and technical stuff.

i helped install the hoses and it is a way higher quality than the OE hose. i would recomend it for shure.

and I like the way it looks :D

Eliminating the thermostat will increase the time required for the engine to warm up... that's what it's there for.

Thanks for the advice, but warm up time is absolutely a non-issue on my Husaberg. Within 60 seconds, both radiators are hot and the bike is ready to be ridden. Since I disabled my thermostat, I have had no further problems with my previously CHRONIC overheating problems. Maybe in a system that holds more coolant, your point would be relevant. With 32oz. of coolant, it's a moot point.

If the thermostat is there to help it warm up quickly, why did they leave it off the FC models? I believe the thermostat is there as a left-over bit from the Euro street-legal models, where (operated on the street) it makes more sense.

Ok, here is how I see it happening.

At standstill, there is less heat dissipation, and actually heating is encouraged.

These hoses are really close to the headers, if they were thinner they would protect less against the heat from their, meaning the engine would get hot faster, up to a certain spot.

As soon as the bike is moving, air flow would cool down both the headers and the coolant passing through, in this case the result would be the opposite.

So, am I right?

i can't think the boss isn't thinking;

WTF happened to my thread? ? TFH stole it? aaah! should have guessed!

black disappates heat the fastest of all the colours but it also absorbs it the quickest from the sun.

blue in itself is pretty. there is no more to it than that. if they claim it does X or Y then it would do it better if it was black and made of X or Y.

thermostats bring bikes up to working temperature quicker than if they didn't have one. alas, on some bikes they act as a restriction people feel and get removed. years ago they discovered that the best racing temp was no longer 70 degrees but 60 degrees and take the compression up a bit.

Q for John?

John, what are your two radiators?

on begalf of most members here at UHE boss, i'd like to apologise for the hijacking of your thread....

regards

Well, my KTM has two radiators, maybe I got cross-rutted there! The gist of it is...my Husabeg doesn't need a thermostat. My hijack of this thread is officially over!

Threads evolve. It's perfectly normal to talk about different things in one long thread. I personally don't see any issue with that... am I the only one?

froggy

god bless you. nobody has hijacked this thread, it was all about two radiators mate! go out and count both of yours up ok? infact could everyone do that please. maybe you'll all then 'suss' what THE POINT was froggy?

infact, far from pointing out john's mistake, i think john is astute enough to know that technically i NEVER want to miss a trick and if there had been two radiators on such-and-such a bike and it was an improvement: i would have had it fitted on mine in a flash!

Geez guys, it's all about making your ride your own. I didn't like the mess of hoses there, so i did a little something about it !! Some like it, some don't-----MOVE ON. Absolutely Brilliant ! :D
