Blocked oil screen plug FE 570 2010

Hello,

had anyone a simular problem with an blocked oil screen?
I refreshed an FE 570 engine due to damaged big-end,also the cilinder and piston got damaged.
So this was an expensive operation!
Before the big-end went out my friend rode 2 hrs without cooling water in an enduro race,
so it got hot.( radiator leak by the thermostate )
While the bill went up , I decide to let the clutch in , no slipping was noticed.

After 1 hrs after rebuild again a rattle in the engine, and the piston jammed in the cilinder due to a lack off oil.
The oil screen was plugged with a kind off fibre / sludge , but no metal.
Everyone told me it had to be the clutch wearing out, but when I look at it , nothing strange noticed.
Does someone have an idea.

Sorry for the poor English , after a bucket off beer it gets better ,

regards Andre from the Netherlands

During my first couple oil changes, the lower oil screen did have this white fiberous material clogging some of the screen. That was 1000 miles ago. Since then, the 2-3 oil changes have not seen the white material come back. In fact, the oil screen has been very clean. I hear that the white material is typical of break in, and some owners/dealers are not diligent enough to clean it during the initial oil changes.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the bike, that must be a nightmare.

read my post on Blown FE570 engine, it might help

Thanks Guys for the replies
And Haskel , it seems simulair with your blown engine.
But this clutch wasn't new , it was 136 hrs old , but overheated the last few hours.
And the stuff on the screen was sludge with fiber , today I give the crankshaft to a friend .
He can press it out with a bigger 30t press , normally I cut it with an disc cutter , but I am not sure off it is damaged , and it will rise the bill offcourse , perhaps I can safe this ( crankshaft )
All the oil canals have been checked, and my new parts have arrived , just waiting for the crankshaft and rebuild

I will let it know

my rod was O-K after I had the screen blockage at about 7,000 miles.
I just rebuilt my 570 at 17,000 miles.
It was running great but I just wanted to replace any parts that might be stressed from heat , PRM and load. Like valves, valve springs, piston and so on for the coming year of riding!!
These were hard off road miles
I did replaced the rod BUT the old one was O-K had no wear
I am going to make a detailed report of what I did on the rebuild soon.
Caution on repairs
BE VERY CAREFUL with the type of sealer and the amount of sealer on these engine cases when doing repairs.
Engine oils and for sure synthetic oils will cause the sealant on the inside of the cases to break free and plug the screen.
LINT, FUSS or FIBER from shop towels or rags will collect on the screen and cause oil restriction or low pressure.
You can not even see this small lint but the screen will catch it.
Need to use only lint free cloth.
CHECK screen every fifty miles for the first 200 miles after engine repair
just a few tips I have learned, hope this helps

Hai Haskel,

here my latest post.
I fixed the engine again , and let the big-end in.
I let the owner decied in this , it was another 240 euroos.
After rebuild I ran it 2 miles and checked the screen plug again.
Damned again **** on it,and I really cleaned everthing and checked all the oli canbals and jets.
I went to the shop and showed the screen plug, nobody understand it.
But with cleaner and a loop whe saw that it was a pices offa rag.
what we found was from the first break down , I forgot to flush the primairie gear ax.
So everything has to do with a small pice of a rag wich I used for cleaning the gaskets and protecting the engine case for losing the circlipring installing the piston / cilinder
At the end I flushed the oli 5 times , while cleaning the screen plug and it is running still after 4 hrs.
So never use a ragg or be very carefull with it.
thanks everbody for the comments
regards Andre

Wow, I had just heard of this happening on another 570 rebuild down in LA, a couple weeks ago. A part of a rag, clogged the oil passages and starved the motor of oil, causing motor failure.
