Well done for posting that, never seen any early write ups, nice to see the heritage of our swedish machines, cheers and how good the write ups were.

I love the old 501 for being what it was at the time

13 years ago ! I never knew much about the bergs back then, I missed out bigtime.

i've waited years to see something like that. a write up AT THAT TIME of a world leading husaberg!

that should be archived straight away with a link.

best thing i've seen on here in a while and congratulations to bendberg for sourcing it.

Taffy

It was great re-reading the Dirt Bike article (I read it way back then). I bought a new '96 FE501 as my first high performance 4 stroke and in my opinion there was nothing else that compared at the time. My FE501 was a huge upgrade from the '87 500XC Husqvarna I had been riding and way better than the 4 stroke Huskys of that time. Honda XRs were in a different class entirely. My '96 FE501 felt much lighter when riding than the 500cc 2 strokes I had been riding and was way easier to kick start. Also, it didn't vibrate as much even without a counter-balancer. My 500cc Huskys shook bad enough it could make your hands numb. There was nothing to compare until the RFS KTMs came out in 2000.

Chris Sutton from Suttos motorcycle supply Sydney Australia had a replica Number 1 bike that was built for Joel Smets to ride at selected rounds of our 4 stroke nationals years ago, when Smets flew back to Europe our own Jeff Leisk rode it at a round needless to say they both won on it, it had plenty of factory bits on it.
Chris purchased the bike after and had it on display until some dirty lowlife stole it.
Chris is a member of this site and i dont know if he ever got it back, maybe he could post a pic of it and somebody may have seen it as it was a one of machine.
ORANGEBERG

Hi John Orangeberg,
Is Sutto still hanging around UHE? Looks like he may have fallen foul to the wrath of ol Lord Taffy back in Sept 2009 and taken his bat and ball and left UHE. Shame, as Sutto is a nice fella and easy to deal with. His shop is excellent too.

Looks like it all happened before I met Sutto and before I joined UHE:

yes but think of the five seconds you can save!

now tell me what you're going to do with the 5 seconds now you've saved it.

Do you blame him if he has??
I dont know these two Husaberg dealers from a bar of soap.
But what i do know Is that I would never ever deal with them.
There smarty pants, childish, name calling, i know all attitude wont see the money in my pocket.
There are plenty of other dealers around.
Do they not think people read there posts??

And back to the original topic of this thread............. :|
Cool articles featuring the bikes we love!

From the premier issue of 4 Stroke Dirt Bikes magazine Aug. 98'. Unfortunately, the mag didn't last long.

Watch Out YZ400F!

Nice shot of the FC400 coming off the hill at the famous Washougal track.

the YZ400 is a nice bike, I still have one, its a bit heavy

a nice light 501 would spank it silly

Good catch Taffy!
Could it have been for U.S. ~dual sport~ models to somehow make them emission compliant? The Qwik Silver isn't mentioned in the 98' or 99' brochures I have.

Here's an ad I found in the July 98' Dirt Rider issue.
