Big Bores for 70 degrees

570 shares cam with the KTM 530 :) And this partnumber is the revised decomp one.

Yeah mate. I have all the numbers for the various cams here. I prob should elaborated on it meaning it’s just an off the shelf cam. Going by his invoice it may suggest they had to buy a new core. Good second hand cores go for $50 but being a business I guess buying second hand isn’t the go. Still, you’d think they would have given Jon the option.

Just me doing that assumption thing. ;)

Ok I got a reply from TR and yes they sent me the wrong cam by mistake. They will pay the shipping. So all good there.
I also had another question about the key hole timings on the crank. That turned out to be all my mistake! I saw a keyslot out of position and assumed something was wrong. So I didn't see the other two key slots! Who would have thought there was more than one?! :) This crank is for 500, 530 and 570, you just choose the correct key slots. Handy.

So now that is sorted I'm really glad! I didn't want to share this until I had the answer to avoid wrong assumptions and potentially unwarranted bad rep. One thing was all my mistake and the other was a mistake they will fix. Nothing to complain about.

So if anyone wish for any close up photos or details just ask.

There are the two extra key slots! The two not to be used filled with jb weld.

I also got a DJH cam chain tensioner. Orange as the 610/660 cylinder is based on a KTM cylinder (seems to be more material on that?).

Good stuff.

Speaking to Travis re the 610 kit and cam, the cam used is of the later 10* shift in the decomp, so unless we have this cam to supply they use a new cam.

I’m considering the Thumperracing built cyl. It allows me to keep the original cyl plus theirs are more solid with larger water jackets. It saves me sending off a barrel etc.

The Thumper Racing hard weld cam is 345” lift and 304* duration.

Further to the specs, the lift is at the lobe. With a rocker ratio of 1.2 (?) this then equates to 10.5 mm.

Ok. Status. The cam is on the way now. Regarding the cylinder the ruined 570 cylinder I sent with the engine was swapped out to a better ktm (more material). I thought that I had to swap but that wasn't the case.. The price they offered for my cylinder was only 100$, understandable as they are doing this for profit, but that wasn't enough for me.

So... Why go full mental when you can go ape-**** crazy? Before they send back my 570 cylinder they will make it 590 :) The only way forward for that cylinder was bigger ID due to the damage, and as they already have it the only sensible thing was to let them fix it.

Ape-**** crazy? That’s the number my missus will do on me when she finds out about the 663cc of bent Berg motor coming out of Norway!

Well, that went down like a lead balloon.

Elation and fear is a strange combination but the fear should eventually reside Leaving only the elation! Is that how it works?

Apologies Jon for raining on your parade.

663cc with a ported head. Cam I don’t know. Not fussed to ask hence price. I get a spare complete head, spare 104mm piston kit, ECU from memory?

Motor with 19hrs since rebuild, kit with 1 hr.

That leaves a cam and throttle body left for upgrades I’d say.

You got a very good deal!

And you are not raining on my parade, you just remind me of the benefits as a single ;)

My 663 from Norway hasn’t started its journey across to Australia as yet. Having troubles getting the shipping company to respond.

Ola is including a cyl head, 17 hr old barrel and piston kit.

The 663cc motor hasn’t left Norway still. It’s an ongoing process but that’s fine. The worst part is I keep purchasing more parts from Ola. I’m buying a crank that has been balanced to suit the 610 piston kit. The Thumperracing crank is unused. The 663 motor was being supplied with a spare 610 piston kit so these will go in another 570 bike I just bought that has a blown crank and cyl.

Question for the knowledgeable- the standard 570 cyl taken out to 104mm. Any dramas with this? I suppose they have done plenty like this. I have a cyl that needs an overbore.

From what I understand you can go to 102, after that it needs a new sleeve pressed in and the engine blocks machined.

Yeah ok, thanks Jon. So be it.

Thumperracing said that their barrel is more suited to extreme use where a taken out standard cyl is ok for your general use. So would it be a correct assumption that all the ‘general use’ cyl’s are sleeved? Or is this a later ‘upgrade’?

Al.

Forget that silly question Jon. Had I thought about it a little more I would have answered my own question. Boring the cases out is indicative of a sleeve being fitted.

Just to disambiguate if needed:

As far as I understood mr. berglsmerg who has an awesome 104mm-cylinder 610cc "570", the modification that the engine cases need to take a 104mm cylinder is minor and can be done "at home" with a dremel. Just some small protrusions that the wider 104mm sleeve hits.

I was under the impression that both 102mm and 104mm involved a re-sleeve of the cylinder "block" (the crafted metal unit which defines the coolant passages and holds the sleeve).

I'm also under the impression that the stock OEM cylinder block can and will take the 104mm sleeve.

I'm not sure whether the cylinder block requires machining or not for 102 or 104.

I have held the belief that the stock OEM sleeve can not be bored out due to nikasil coating issues.

If this helps? Hope I'm not causing confusion by saying incorrect stuff!

An aluminium cylinder nicasil treated can be bored out to have an iron liner no problem, have had it done many times on my ducati engines. You may want to be picky about who does the job as if its not done right the liner will sink :/
