Best Berg for Trail Riding?

r7

you come waltzing up to a deep rut on the std FE400e and go "sugar", crack the throttle and nothing will happen. you'll be in 3rd gear and it's gutless. you end up in trouble.

the 400 with a '53' cam in it is the same spec as the mx version and grunts.

the 470 is the way to go if you don't want to touch the 400.

if you get a 400 and want to fit the '53' cam. it's a 60 minute job and is relatively safe.

Taffy

I don't believe any of the bergs will work great right off the bottom (tick over) unless they have cush drives. I have a 2002 650 with the 53 cam (mid range cam) and if I open her up at very low revs she don't like it.

I trail ride my 650 sm  .

If you look at bore to stroke ratio that will tell u roughly whether it needs to be revved.

I would personally go for either a 400 or a 501.

ooooouuuwwww! lloyd, don't get me started!

you shouldn't say they don't snap and go! my 400 does!

carburation is the answer.

like i said. don't get me started.

Thanks gruntunberg,

Lot of people are reporting the 04 onwards bikes are very good, which i would really like but as i'm gonna keep my 03-FS650e SM i cant afford enough to get an 04 model. My 650 has been very reliable and starts/runs perfect now hot and cold on the button once i set everything up right although i thought the wiring looks like it was fitted by a baboon on speed and i thought it may be a problem in damp/wet conditions. Has been ok, may tidy it/water proof it a bit better later.

Did you have any failures/problems with the 470.? There are quite a few 470's/501's about for good money so i'm interested in these. Also interested in a 400 with Taffy's '53' cam mod if a good one comes along. Just gotta sell my CRM250 first.! If anyone is interested in a clean CRM just email me [email protected] for details.

Cheers
Colin

No real problems with the 470 engine wise rebuilt it once due to valves tulipping found that allthough it was 02 engine was more 01 8O
if i was in your shoes get yourself up to see clarkee in preston and sniff out a 03 400 do the carb swap and go roost i know clarkee comes in for some stick by various members on this site but if your looking for seconed 501-400 he's got a shed full

Yeah, been eying DCR's web site, he has a lot of 2nd hand FE's, some look nice, some not so nice.! I am in South London and Demon Racing in Essex can get any bike on DCR's website shipped free to his Essex dealership, so i can get one from him quite easily. Trouble is DCR's stock is constantly changing, nearly all the FE400's are now gone.!

Would really like an 04-FE450e if i could afford it, that way the Carb is up to date etc.

GUYS, QUESTION :-

Do UHE members sell their bikes on here.? If so where do i look.?

Thanks
Colin
