Berg haters

I put a lot of hours on my 01 CR500. It had a lot of power, but it was 5 speeds of abrupt power. It was a great hill climb bike but definitely took some skill to manage on the trails.
Break loose power but not tractable. It was stock with an Fmf slip on. I did gear it a few teeth taller at one point and was surprised to get a bog from it. So geared it back.
Now on the other hand the FE 650 has all that power you want and more but with tractable power and the "Torque". Its all about the Power, Torque and Tractability that sets it on a level above the CR. And to add to that the Chassis is also superior. Especially as a trail bike. Even the reviewers got that one right even if they didn't get it all.
When it gets rough rutted and ugly the Berg is king. That's far from any trail riding review of a Cr500.

You are correct.

The CR500 was a good rocket ship and great on the beach, but prone to want to try to rear up flip you at spots on the track that just got on your goat so you don't enjoy that crap at all, but the berg you had non of that wild bull ride, but just a well bread Stallion that you could master, not to mention think f--k ! I am going to come off here and you don't  I am like  the berg just saved me, first time was quite sort of deep 4x4 ruts coming into a corner fast when I seen them, but hey that was radical and never feared them to much after that to really bother with to much.

I had 4 mates with CR500 and I a Suzuki RMX250 boy did I get roosted, but they loved to ride my RMX because you could flog it as hard as you liked and have real fun. sure the 500 was good fun but it could be in charge of you. but with the berg you are always in charge.

First time on the 650 I came flying through a track and a huge tree was down, I thought ok I am coming off superman style and my mates brand new berg will be a wright off, but I stoped and the back wheel came off the ground too. came back to old mate but forgot to tell about that tree :giggle: he took off and I just remembered, he recons I did it deliberately still 10 years on :hathat9:

I've heard it all from the dirt bike and supermoto community in Ca.
From what's a Husaberg? Or hey that's pretty cool. To all out hate and ridicule.
The latter out of pure ignorance. They seem to really know nothing about a Husaberg. But appear to be sparked by some sort of jealousy of a superior motorcycle. In particular, compared to the one that they own.

I find the secret is to NOT want anything else, it has to be genuine of course, (i find that bit easy....) but as soon as they talk about their latest bike they'd like I have nothing to say on the subject and just wait...it's a non-subject.

as for haters? never met them but we used to be ridiculed. but nobody knew how to make them run right in those days but now they start and run as sweet as theirs. also of course, if your keeping a 15 year old bike going they can't claim to have an 'old bike' - you have it!

I would have thought it's tougher in the States....over in europe it isn't about the 'latest and greatest' like you have it, we are more idiosyncratic (that's a long word, i'll try not to use it again) but having said that, we had more than a few of them on FR1 and FR2. they were everywhere! Known as Crazy MFs!

cheers

Street legal Husabergs are even more rare here in this state than others.
2005 was a split year of street legal and green sticker (off road only bikes). And also the last year Supermoto's were sold here until the 70* bikes.
And the law here prohibits converting any dirtbike to street legal after 2003 that wasn't originally sold here that way. Unless you bring one in from out of state with over 7500 miles on it.
No Husaberg Supermotos were sold in Calfornia in 06-08. In 06 and 07 none were street legal except for just a few that came with a compliant emission sticker and plate. I don't know how they squeezed by but a few dealers go them.
08 was a red sticker bike that could only be ridden off road from 7 to 9 months out of the year.
And only enduros during those 3 years.
And I have a plated 07 FS550 partial conversion and plated 06 FS650 full conversion.
A lot of detail went into the 650 to make a bike that wasn't even sold in this state.
And the 550 is close with the same detail.
I would be surprised to see another 06 FS650 in the entire state of California. Because I know what it would take for it to be here.
Either shady street legal conversion , all the time consuming Supermoto conversion, or brought it in with 7500 miles.
Husabergs are rare here anyway. Some are Very rare.
