Belmouth or not?

Got myself a MK2 to replace my choke less MK1, the MK2 I got is from a CRF, and there are no bolt holes to mount the belmouth.

I can mount the air booth directly on the carb without problem, but will running without a belmouth give any problems or cause a power loss?

Having the "belmouth" placed in a position, not at the entrance of the intake is less good (OEM design). I think you´ll be even better off without the belmouth, instead having a minor area change between the rubber duct and the carb.

you haven't been reading the doc! the belmouth made a considerable difference on my 400 so what will it do to your 650?

i reckon you made a mistake not using the MK1 mate? read the doc! BTW, i can get your carb bored but it's through me as i want to control the work my engineer does. if i let everyone approach him he won't be allowed to do the work (maybe) and the only loser would be me!!!!

2 to one, so I'll start without belmouth, wich is easier and quicker since I don't have to source parts, I can always add one later.

@ Taffy, I badly needed the choke and only lost 20 euros, swapping in the MK1 for the MK2 so I don't see where i made the mistake?

About boring out the carb, it's not for myself, it's for a friend of mine. He found some local machinist who is willing to give it a try. Thanks for the offer!

Question on the side, the guy I sold the MK1 to, had a couple of FCR carbs lying around, we measured them all, and they all gave different measurements, where exactly is the 41mm measured, airbox side, engine side, at the slide, ...?

not really. you bore it out now and fit the belmouth now. this would be without using the OEM sock ok?

i told you all alkong you couldn't turn down your APJ as you needed help to start the bike. the mk2 sits better and takes up less space. it uses a different PJ and APJ. big deal!

he will find it very, very difficult to do. he will have to break the carb in half and make special tools to hold the various ports for boring.

i measured mine on the very lip[ before you get to the central hole. it is a pig to measure!

We'll i'd have to source the belmouth, get it mounted, wich with my life family and work that's at least two weeks(at best), using no belmouth, just adding a little bit to the OEM sock I can mount it immediately, with some rubber hose I can 'borrow' from work.

I could get it started fairly easy, pump the throttle about 8 times and it fired up, but with the current climate changes, you know one week it's freezing, next week it's +10° I was thinking that a choke might come in handy, so when I saw a MK2 at a reasonable price I snatched it up, my MK1 was sold minutes after I posted the add and only lost 20 euros on it, so not a bad deal IMO.
(Why do I feel like I'm trying to explain to my dad why I bought something expensive/useless :D :D :D )

Already tried to fit the carb and it fit's rather well, no problem with the starter, only problem will be on top where the throttle cables will probably touch the rectifier. Might have to relocate the electrival stuff underneath the seat.
