Auto-decomp spring

98 FE501E - I have my engine torn down for an unrelated issue, and noticed the auto-decomp spring was broken and missing the ends, leaving just a coil around auto-decomp shaft. There's no manual decompressor on my bike. I have been in touch with a dealer to get a new spring, but would I see an advantage in using the 04 auto-decomp mechanism? Would this even fit into the older generation bikes? It was this thread that had me thinking.

Just got the spring I ordered. It's different than the old one. The broken spring has probably five or six coils (not positive, bike's not here) and the new one has just three coils.
has part number 800.36.059.000 on the bag with 149A written in pen. Will this spring work?

After searching through the parts manuals, looks like I got a manual decompressor spring. Having that engine in pieces on the bench is a lot less fun than riding.

Just ordered the right spring. If anyone needs this other spring, I'd be glad to gift it to them.
