I used an autoclutch for the first time yesterday on my new-to-me 01 FX470e. For a long time I didn't see the use of it and felt just like the previous poster that it was like turning my bike into a Trail 90. What's the point of riding something that is dumbed down?
After riding my new bike though, I'm hooked. It's so much easier and fun blasting through stuff that would have had me dabbing feet the whole way through. Plus, the idea that it's "dumbed down" is kind of short-sighted. After all, if that was true then "real men" would still be hand-cranking their cars to start them and eschewing things like synchro gears and power steering. Autoclutches are the only way to go and I won't own another bike without one.
Incidentally, my dad also rode it and decided that he wasn't riding another day without one either. He has a Kawi KLX300. Rekluse doesn't make one, so he called EFM as the Revloc clutches are $900 8O . EFM's are about $500. After an hour on the phone, not only did he find that Revloc's clutches are made by EFM, but he became a dealer as well since he already has a small service shop. The owner of EFM has a 124" blown Harley with one of his clutches. The guy says he does burnouts in gears 1-4 and in 4 years of owning and abusing his bike he's never touched his clutch. That's some stress testing!
