Dale,
What I believe you are alluding to is correct, at least partially. In our pre-season testing, we went through many different engine configurations, and had 1 "significant" engine failure that was not publicized on this forum. However, what is quite different between our effort and the Aprilia effort is that none of the issues that we had left a bike non-funtional for a race day (local or national), though at times we have had to scramble.
At the nationals, we are 7 for 8 on main events this year, and the one that was missed was due to my inability to ride, not a mechanical failure. Not only have the bikes made it to the end of the race, we have both run the entire race weekend each time on only 1 bike, we have not had the luxury of practice bike for Thurs & Friday and a race bike for Saturday (though hopefully Robert will soon have that in place).
Please don't take my comments as Aprilia bashing, just stating the facts as I have seen them on a fairly big stage. Maybe it is just a buyer beware, as common sense should tell most people at first couple years of production of a radically new design.
Though I have not been posting on this board for very long, I have been involved with Husabergs since 1995, thus am very familiar with the bad and the good and everything in between that they have had. I also hope that Aprilia gets things turned around as that would be one more manufacturer that will help to keep the Unlimited class around in AMA competition
