Im running 15/40 presently (with an 18inch rear). came with 16/40 and 18 rear but top gear was no use under 120ish kph (may also be part of the reason I wreaked my big end after 150hrs).
With the 15/40 I am sitting just at the start of the torque wave around 110kph...

thanks bergbro. i've read the gearing post on this blog a few times as a reference, but real world advice is always better. my experience with the 16-40 that my bike came with was that i'd never need 6th gear... 14/45 sounds fun, but like u say i don't want to run into unnecessry engine wear... i'll give 16/45 a go and see how shift feels. cheers! oh yeah - got my wheels back last night, so tonight is drivetrain and controls hook-up...

cool. let us know how you get on! i hooked up 16/45 last night. i decided to stick with the factory 16T up front, based on the comments about torque-wear on the engine with high gearing. i'll let y'all know how 16/45 feels. basically just want to achieve 4 useable gears for round town and 2 gears for the open road... p.s. thats an awesome looking bike you've got!

Hi Crew. So! Finally on the road and legal. The bike past WoF (just) with the running light being an issue as it's so dim. Anyway. No need for a chain guard... phew...
I spent the day riding today, and can't say how much I enjoy the bike! Heaven... It's been a mission to restore this thing back to working order, but so glad I did!
As previously discussed, I've popped backed here to update you all on the gearing. I decided to run with 16/45, and its very rideable. Roughly each gear is about 30KM per hour. It's perfect for me as I can stay in 3rd gear for commuting and then use 4 and 5 for the open road. 6th gear is great at around 120 to 150 km on the motorway... Stable without any major vibrations. Riding out west of Auckland through SH16 today, I was mostly in 3-5 which felt smooth and strong... Effortless torque and control on this bike!
One question I have for you all, maybe I'll setup a thread on it - does the clutch sound super loud on this bike? Currently it sounds like my old Ducati 916 with a dry clutch... It has a strong whirring bearing sound... not sure if it's completely normal, or not?
Today, after a 200Km ride today, I changed the oil, and I didn't see any metal filings in the oil, just a mild sludge, otherwise very clean.... any advise or observations appreciated! lots of new noises to get used to on this bike!
Is the '06 a bike that suffers from the Main Bearing issues? I hope not

I don't want to alarm you, and since you got no metal in the oil you should be fine, but mine suffered from bad bearings a year ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xzuEBZA0vg

When I engage the clutch (pull the lever) the noise goes away... When riding, it's present. I know that all bikes make different noises, but haven't got anything to use a baseline on this model. Your bike (in that clip) sounds a lot like mine does now - So you had to replace the main bearing? Ouch...
Maybe I need to get a GoPro and upload a clip of the engine... I think my phone won't capture it properly. The local service-guy for Husaberg in NZ thought mine sounded fine, but I'm not hugely confident they see many/are aware of all the details the way people on this forum are.

Cheers for the feedback; I'm not knowledgeabe enough or setup at home for a full engine rebuild, so might just relax & keep riding and servicing the basics until I hit 250hrs, then review the state of affairs...

Hey Toby. Looks awesome! How do those tyres corner on the asphalt? I completed the build on the 650 and then sold it. Loved it to pieces but needed a few more creature comforts for daily commuting. I just bought a 570. Pick it up next week hopefully, so will aim to swing by your way and pick your brains once I have it, if that's still cool? Can you do the ECU tuning on '11 570? Cheers, Rich.

Congrats on the new purchase, is it the bike that is/was on trademe if so its a fine looking beast, went for a spin out to piha karekare bethels and swung by to see toby with his berg, nice machine also.
Hopefully the weather will get better soon so more riding time.Have seen 2 other tards out on the roads, i think crfs or huskies so it will be nice to get some more bergs out there.

Hey Bro. The FS 650 went to a bloke down the line; he has a bunch of bikes apparently and was happy to add this to the stable. Probably for the best as its a bit of a rare beast to commute on! Nice chap and haven't seen him hit this forum yet - most likely 'cause I did everything already! choice bike, for sure...
Yeah, the FS570 was the one on TM - it has some useful features, like a key, amoung other things. The bike is pretty sweet, imported from a Husa/KTM mechanic in San Deigo (original owner are you out there?!). Only done 3.5K... Need to figure out the ECU mapping it's on (I miss my carb already) and also put on a straight through pipe and new air filter; thinking the FMF Megabomb & 4.1 looks like the killer option. Need to modify the drive train too, I liked 15:45 on the 650, so will start there.

I have a black rear fairing, still wrapped, never opened! I also have a full set of the yellow and blue fairings lightly used with decals on, inc headlight etc. I have a 14T front and 45T rear too... That would be pretty epic on the 650
Can't wait to catch up for a ride. West coast would have been awesome. Hanging out to pick up the 570!

Hey Rich, out with the old and in with the new aye? I saw that 570 on TM, its a pretty slick looking machine, good on ya. I havent had anything to do with the FI mangement on the bergs, but I have a real nice hammer and some vice grips, I'm sure I can work it out..
And yeah those tyres on my berg are F***ing amazing on any surface in any conditions, I just dont expect them to last long. They are pretty close to being a wet race tyre.
We all have to catch up for that beer soon..

Cool. Sounds mint to me. Maybe catch up at Provenance in Waimauku for a brew and then go for ride out through Woodcocks? bitsabikes - you keen to catch up? I hope to get the new bike next week, so maybe the weekend after that? I think the tyres are OK on the bike... I'm thinking Michy Road 4's for the next set... Need something a little economic/practical to deal with the upright commute around town... A 5" rear would open a world of new tyre options, but never had any complaints with Michelin pilot power/road options...

Sounds good to me Rich, this w/end looks like it will be a bit wet so next sat or sun would be good, hope Toby has his motor run in by then, you will have to post some pics once u pick up the 570, have read some good things about about them.
Have you got any pics of the parts ur selling?I may be interested in some plastics and if u have some shroud graphics i will buy u a beer.
