Another fuel pump problem?? 2012 FE570

Hi Guys,

I dont mean to start a new tread about the same thing but just wondered if people were still having problems with fuel pumps, even on 2012 FE570's?

Ive had my bike for two weeks, 5.5hrs. Installed a akra carbon slip on, and a few days later the bikes playing up like a second hand lawnmower. Actually my 20 year old victor 2 stroke runs better.

The bike decides to act up randomly, generally on boring highway rides. Starts to surge, lose power, pop like crazy on decel, and no amount of idle increase adjustment effects the idle speed. Sounds like the pump to me. I would have thought this problem would have been resolved after years of it being a problem.

Ive only ever had Jap MX bikes in the past and never had a problem. Since im getting older,im looking for a more relaxed style of bike, but really dont like the ideal of having to push or tow this thing out of the bush.

what a crummy thread?

'you don't mean to...' but you did!

you've said it is the fuel pump when you aren't sure!

the only country I believe having trouble is the USA. I may be wrong but that is what I understand. you have some of the poorest fuel known to the western world.

if it was a carbed bike I'd say it was running very rich on the mid range.

well.....good luck :| :|

Sounds to me like bad gas or maybe a gummed up pump filter. Mine ran poorly when it was brand new. When I pulled the pump out I found all of the white gunk people talk about coating the intake filter on the pump. But I think the surging was from water in the tank. The dealer put a small amount of fuel in the tank. The Ethanol quickly absorbs water and it settles to the bottom of the tank. On a harsh ride the water might get stirred up, but on a gentle ride the pump will be sucking in water now and then.

I would suggest pulling the tank, dumping the fuel, and then remove the pump and take a look. Clean everything and then buy quality fuel with injector cleaner and keep the tank full. If the bike is going to sit for a while, through in some stabilizer.

Thanks taffy for the reply.

I'm not sure about the fuel pump thing but it sounds so similar. Only other thing I have done was change oil. I done filter and added 1.4ltrs as per manual. How can too much oil make them play up?

Thanks DeeG.

Can someone direct me to a thread on how to pull the assembly from the tank? I honestly have little faith in the mechanics at my dealer and would rather sort this myself.

On the fuel side of things, I always use the best Bp fuel available in australia, which has injector cleaner in it. I or my mates have never had problems with this fuel in our jap efi bikes. A friend did just buy a ktm sx 250, and had no end of drama getting that bike right. It too had white crap in the carb apparently that had blocked the jets.

The only other thing I have done to the bike is the akrapovic slip on. But I even rang husaberg australia if there was a reflash program, and they said no. Mind you the bike went like a freight train for a couple a hundred clicks.

If I get the pump out and it is blocked with white goo, is it likely to have starved the pump and damaged it?

Thanks guys.

Hi guys

Well Ive got the info from the horses mouth, not it's a@$e. Husaberg australia have acknowledged that the fine inline injector filters are a problem. They haven't heard officially from ktm what the problem is, but it's suspected that the filter is too fine. As others have said, probably swells a little when hot and restricts flow.

I'm waiting for a replacement filter and will post results. There will be a recall on 2012 bikes (Australia) once a more suitable filter is sourced.

Just take the in-line filter out. The main filter is in the tank, which should do the job. The small in-line at the fuel rail is just one more level of filtering that hasn't worked out.

In the latest Australian TBAM magazine, they trial a yellow framed FE570 and had both major fuel pump and micro inline filter problems.

I have a 2010 FE390 and have a Profil filter in the tank mouth, and I put the mcro filter in prior to the injector. I onlu use BP Ultimate 98 RON fuel here in Australia and have had no problems yet at 43 engine hours.

Problem solved. Took that little inline filter out and bike started with two revolutions, and went hard, as it should. Talking to husaberg Australia, the pumps are apparently good. It's just the inline filters at this stage, but will monitor the pump as well.

Okay I have read many posts on the subject and believe that my 2011 FE570 has suffered the same problem. The bike left me high and dry 25 miles or so from my camp with the GF on the back. Took a fall in some deep sand and the it ran for a second or two and stalled. When I turned the kill switch on and off, no fuel pump sound. I continued to try to start off and on for the next hour while pushing the bike for an hour until finally the battery died.

Long story short, got a jump from a pick-up. Lost confidence in the bike so I contacted the dealer who thinks it was a loose battery terminal. Considered trading in on a 2012 KTM 500, but dealer wanted to be greedy. $4300 plus my 600 mile FE570

After reading a lot of posts, and testing the tip over, I think the fuel pump is not working when the fuel/engine get really hot.

Do I take the $129 gamble on a new pump or try the inline filter first.

If you had no fuel pump sound, it is not from not having an in-line filter. An in-line filter may help prevent the injector from getting fouled, but it will only increase the load on the pump.

Sounds like you either have an electrical problem or a faulty pump. You may be able to get a replacement pump under warranty.
