A velocity stack, what can it do for you?

In the confines of a stock chassis.... reduce performance.

are you saying that your velocity stack can't be used in the standard chassis, dale? it looks like it would just about fit but be near the back wall of any airbox built.

if an air filter was fitted directly onto it, where abouts along the VS would the air filter grip? so is the VS for an airbox, an air filter either or both?

i'm interested in making this my next project dale and would appreciate any help and advice yoiu can give me?

thanks

Taffy

Hi Taffy,
The stock air boot will fit around the inlet bell just as on an OEM Husaberg Keihin. Unfortunately the velocity stack is placed very close to the near 90 degree inlet boot wall hindering performance.

The pictured FCR 41 carburetor is from one of my DT 444 race engines. Said engine is equipped with X1 camshaft, 37mm inlet valves, 32mm exhaust valves and an open exhaust.

A 152mm x 102mm K&N air filter is set in place over the stack. Stack opening is near mid filter with plenty of room to draw from the forward sides.

Hope this helps.

cheers dale

i have a BV head ready to fit if i want. but i have stolen the 30mm exhausts from it already so it may be straight up to 31-32 exhausts.

understood the VS report.

ever tried an airbox w/ filter over the big K & N filter?

Yes,
Unfortunately most singles require the airbox be fitted where the shock resides.

I constructed a very attractive CAD air box for a CRF only to lose power most everywhere. :-(

Cheers,
Dale

hi dale

would you have a part number for that air filter please?

yes but guv'nor-strewth mate. you're always on the money arnchya!

gor bless ya guv'nor!

one other thing. i see from the photo that you run an inch on the carb to head side. have you ever tested that out and in? plus and minus 1/2"?

i'll guess that nearer gave higher revs and shorter gave more torque if you did?

Hi Taffy,
I have indeed and such produces near identical results to that of changing stack lengths.

Dale

this is pedantic but you quoted one size in your post but the thread lead directly to a K & N that was another. i am going to measure up later this week which of the two filters would fit a standard frame on that stack.

but you could perhaps tell me which?

Hi Taffy,
I Honestly have no idea which if either will fit. I have used both, albeit, never in the confines of a stock chassis.

A couple of years ago I supplied the very same information to another UHE member.

Said member (do not recall whom) cut his chassis and installed one of the filters.

If memory serves he was quite pleased.

Pictures were indeed sent, however, I have no idea where they are now. :?

Sincerely,
Dale

having measured up the dimensions of the velocity stack (wonder where i got them?  ) i checked them against the carb today and found that it's a no go. the top of the stack at 11 and 1 o clock would be hitting the bottom of the frame outlet that the boot fits too. and at that it would be touching the lip right near the back!

no room for an air filter however a frame mod did occur to me but would need a rubber mould making. out of the question unless gauranteed BHP is on offer.

nice idea though!

NO BOG Mountain Carb Kit

KTM Honda Yamaha
(roll over to see different models)

The Slavens NO BOG Mountain Carb Kit was designed and developed in the Colorado Rockies to address the carbureting woes and torque loss caused by thin mountain air. It eliminates the dreaded "four stroke cough" and gives a major boost to low end and mid-range torque by combining proper jetting with increased bore velocity.

Appears to be a Powernow gizmo spinoff?

i'd like to find a velocity stack made of bent aluminium tube... i want it to curve down and away from the frame's spine.

i've yet to research where such an article will come from but i will.

Taffy
