97 fc supermoto, tyre sizes

A 120 will fit OK on the front. You can squeeze some 160's on a 4.5" rear, but it hits the chain pretty well. Probly best going 150 or less on a 4.25 rim.

Rear 150 is best. Some 160's will go onto a 4.25 rim but it tends to squeeze the profile slightly out of shape.

Cheers,
Simon

yeah, i kinda thought that as a 160 seems to be more for a 5" rim, will i get chain clearance ok? up front should i go 120 or is that a bit big to? cheers for the reply too bud! what make do you reckon for road use with some very mild green laneing perhaps maybe on a dry day?

My front rim is only a 2.75" off a Yamaha Zeal and I used the 120 fitted to it when I bought it. I pretty much wore the tyre out then finally killed it against a guard rail.

The rear 4.5" rim is off a RGV250 and it originally has a 165 55 17 on it that cleared the chain OK (just). The last 150 kissed the chain. The 160 on it at the moment hits pretty hard and has smeared (melted?) the edge off the tyre, but still seems OK. Your narrower rim will pull the tyre in more and give you more chain clearance than I have.

You'll have to decide what tyre profiles you are happy with on your rims. I have photos of mine in my gallery if you are interested. This is the thread that contained most of peoples' opinions at the time I fitted them.

Jus thought it was worth saying a bit of chain rub isn't the end of the world... I have a 5" rear and a 160 tyre and it rubs about 5mm off the tyre! Doesnt do the tyre enough harm to worry about nor the chain!

Really can't answer that one I'm afraid... This is my first 'Berg and I'n not sue about interchanging parts! Am sure someone else would know though!
