Hi everyone, in this case i was so unfortunate i bought a very poorly looked after 501, in which case it needs a new cylinder since it has worn trough the nicasil coating. So I'm wondering where its cheapest to buy one or a cheaper complete bog bore kit is available?

Chris:)

talked to this bloke two days ago. scroll down and you'll seee that he has a FE501e and i can tell you that it's a 97 i think but unless i'm mistake, it'll be the same as yours?

can someone confirm?

i actually think it fits.. i will give him a mail, but still does anyone know if athena makes big bore kits to the 501? it wouldent hurt with a bit more power:)

Bore it!

It will only cost you about 1500:- to 2000:- SKR if theres no welding to be done.

He did mine cylinder and he did a good job, it`s not Nikasiled but i guess it will be good for a coupel of pistons ;-)
Han omfodrade den med gjutjärnsfoder, sorry folks i cant`t translate that to english.
(cast iron bore?)

RE: Bore it!

thnx dude.. will look in to that. how long have you used your bike with the cast iron lining ?

1,5 h

Hej.
Only 1,5 h. got it last week.
On my RD 350 it`s cast iron to and it have 40000 km on the tacho so i think it`s good enough for my old Husa to since i dont rev it much as i rev the RD 350.

RE: 1,5 h

okay, its funny that its nicasil on this because on both bikes i`d owned before got cast iron ( yz 125 99 and kx 250 03) and problems with that has been an non issue, just needs a new piston and a hone now and then :)

RE: 1,5 h

nikasil has to be thicker than cast iron. i would think that if you look at a 100mm piston and barrel from later on you have a chance....

can't remember the size of the 600's bore? there really ought to be a 'geek' or two around for the earlier engine.

RE: 1,5 h

the bigger the better:) woukd be nice if anyone knew wich parts are interchangeable from other bergs or ktm.. as i`ve seen the ktm parts are much easyer to get hold of, and much cheaper.

501 is BIG!

I`ll had a FE 350 for 8 months and when i got the FE501 it was lika a big anabolfeeded dieseltruck in power compared to the FE 350, you have power at any revs and wheelies from 1 to 4 gear if you want.
Havent droven it seriosly yet after the engine rebuild but it feels promising so far and in the mud there is more power than the most riders need i guess.
Good luck.

Cheers

RE: 501 is BIG!

my bike is fast but not that fast, well all is relative, a 6th gear `hold it on the wheel as long as you like wheelie` is no problem, but as they say: cant never get enough :)

RE: 501 is BIG!

well fortunatly it looks like a shop here in Norway is up for the replating job:) if this works i`m gonna be a happy man, then there will be tuning :) any one got a flywheel for an fe 501 ? mine have a crack in it :S the money stream will never stop!

RE: 501 is BIG!

I dont know if the same can be done to ahusaberg but a mate of mine had a kdx 250 he had his barrel bored out and put a liner in so it would give him a few rebores and it cost about the same as plating

RE: 501 is BIG!

max

you need to tell me the outter diameter of your barrel? in the meantime someone like husabutt, parsko, oyk or ned shouyld be able to tell you what the bore and stroke of the 600 was?

to be honest, it has been mentioned but i can't recall where?

try lineawever, ask him, he's back for the winter so he may reply to you.

RE: 501 is BIG!

ok cheers for that ned. they will have the same little end size and the little end to squish should be similar enough that we can cope....

so maxboost at the risk of calling you a shytshooter, if you have an external diameter on your spigot of 103mm: you can go to a 600 piston on that original linar. indeed if you have an OD of 107mm you may even be able to take the 100mm. the 96 will give you about 525cc and the 100mm will give you the 550.

as they said in one of thee greatest films of all time (in the turkish baths) "well i don't think you're gonna gross dollar one but if you do - i wanna peice of the action!".
