Try the 650 in the tight stuff for awhile, you will think your riding a mini bike :D

berger not long back did think about a 650 just leave it one gear :D all me darft orange friends are down sizing to the 250 f exc so this winter i can see more tight woods as less big hills to climb but will keep the berg flag flying in what is more and more a flock of orange sheep

Seriously the 496cc does not seem to have the same hit as the 501. Maybe the way it is jetted. The one Berger has anyway.

I don't mind the hit from the 501 but I weigh 235 in gear (and yes I did lose weight). It has not exactly ripped my arms out of their sockets yet.

All my fellow Frenchies back home prefer the smaller thumpers like the WR 250F or smokers like the 200 EXC but that's because most of them have the Gallo-Romanic genes and being 6ft tall makes you a giant.

Most of the bergites I know are either taller or heavier (place yourself in the appropriate category -or both).

Grannygruntunbergs 501 feels heavy cos he carries a rucksack full of spares , clutch plates n all , me thinks its time to trade that boat anchor 501 fathoms in to captain nuatilus n get a sensible bike! Mind u i reckon a barrel off a raleigh wisp mobylette mite fit which would make it a 76cc leaf blower! I dont think u can loop out with one of those.

My 496 does not have any hit whatsoever. It pulls smooth from the bottom and just keeps revving. It feels like it has more flywheel weight / crank mass. I am running 15/50 gearing, 1st is still a bit tall for goat trails and switch backs. The engine still requires gentle throttle control in the 1st 3 gears or bad things can happen.

grunt

think you muisunderstood me. i said lower the gearing. lower it! 13/48 or 14/51 and then use second all the time...

less talk of 15T ok?

regards

Taffy
