Hello,

I am looking for the complete auto-decomp mechanism for the head of my 91 501. I also need the cable from kick starter to head.

Anyone have one or know what other models mechanism would fit?

Thanks

Hi Jason,
Well busy with the "finishing touch" on your MSR Husaberg?
Did you have already contact with Malcolm Smith Racing?
And did you succeed with the graphics?

Grtz Rens

p.s.i am very curios how it looks now.

Hey Rens,

I am in the process of buying/installing an FCR 40 from 06 CRF250R to the 501. Hopefully it will help with cold starting, add power and throttle response.

Spoke to Alexander Smith son of MS, AS said he had no way to get me any pics, info, anything. He suggested old Husky dealer could help???

No MS graphics............ I could make up my own MS tribute graphics. Have a sticker of one of his emblems for reference.

Bike looks about the same but cleaner. Couple new visible parts. I ordered the only known graphics kit available. It is a blue and gray Mister Max kit. Going to Keep them in reserve if I can't find correct MSR graphics.

Hi Jason,
I am very curios what the stickerset looks like, so if you could post a picture of it that would be nice.
The mod of your bike is it a Keihin carb?
As for my FE 501, i made templates of the original stickers they used back in '89, and still in search for a company who can help me out.

p.s. maybe Taffy can help you with the auto decompression mechanism?

Here is the graphics kit I bought from BOSS. Yes it is curling. Glue still sticky and clean. I will use as templets if I do MSR tribute graphics. I don't think the 501 stickers go with shroud graphics. Oh well.

Hi Jason,
This stickerset looks a lot like those of a '92 model.
But hey, don't despair i am still looking in my archive, if i can find anything about the MSR edition.
The only thing is that my archive is a bit extensive, so if you have a bit patience maybe we get lucky:rolleyes:

Hello,

I am looking for the complete auto-decomp mechanism for the head of my 91 501. Thanks

The auto-decomp assembly would essentially be a weight and spring which are available new or from Taffmeisters. You will probably want to use the 04-08 version. Or are you thinking about something else?

Hey husabutt,

I am looking for the complete auto decomp head assembly and I will switch it from the kick starter auto-decomp to handle bar manual decomp. I will get a hold of Taffmeisters or BOSS Husaberg Monday.

FYI. From 89-03 kick start models had all three (3) separate decompression systems:
1. Kick start activated decompression.
2. Manual decompression(lever on the handlebars).
3. Auto-decompression (internal self activating).

Your bike already has a complete autodecompression assembly (unless it was removed).

In 04 the kick start activated decompression system was discontinued.

Perhaps along the way your manual compression release lever was removed.

If possible take some pictures of the right side of the cylinder where the kick start activated cable attaches.

Hey husabutt,

You say that my 91 was supposed to come with:

1. Kick start activated decompression.
2. Manual decompression(lever on the handlebars).
3. Auto-decompression (internal self activating).

The only decomp I see on bike is #1 minus head parts and cable.

I have heard that people removed the kicker decomp for some reason.

I would at least like #2, but #3 would be ideal!

Do you have parts fische for #2 and #3?

Thanks,

Jason

Bought the Taffmeister auto-decomp with better return spring plus purchased an O-ring.

If Taffy is right and this is all I need I will be very grateful and happy!

Hi BB:

There is a 94 cam for sale on e-bay 1994 Husaberg 501 Cam Shaft Gear | eBay and to my surprise it does not appear to have a autodecompression device. I checked the 89-96 parts book and took a closer look and it shows that the camshaft 200 160-01 is the same for all 89-96 501 models but the autodecompression device (weight) was only installed on FX and FEE models. So......... your cam may be set up to accommodate the decomp or it may not. The parts book may show a superseded camshaft that can use the decomp or not. The only way to tell for sure is to take off the rockerarm cover and take a look at the camshaft. If a newer style camshaft is needed here is one on ebay that may work 1999 Husaberg FE600E Camshaft Assembly Cam Shaft 99 FE600 FE 600 E | eBay

Looking further into the parts book the rocker arm cover changed in 96 so if you end up having to use a later model cam you may have to use the later model rocker cover too.

Thanks for your help husabutt. Time will tell if it will all work out smoothly.

BOTH CAMS - IF THEY TAKE AN adc WILL WORK STRAIGHT OFF THE BAT WITH THE MODIFIED adc AND SPRING FROM LATER YEARS.

rocker shaft is just a width of forkspacing thing.

I have been pondering your statement and for the life of me I don't get it. I even drank 2 Stone India Pale Ales and it didn't even help. And drinking 2 double IPA's always helps everything. Then I did a shot of Tequila , still nothing. I understand that our U.S. English is not the Queens English and what we speak is an aberration of proper English. With that said what are you trying to convey ye olde Taffmeister ? :) Iechyd da!

well eric, if you have larger valves fitted you will space them further apart OK?

if they are further apart that means the two fingers on the rocker arms are set further apart.

then you have to have a different part number you see?

now the early husabergs didn't have ANY auto decomp OK?

I sell a modified spring to go with the 2004-8 auto decomp weight.

so now we see:
"BOTH CAMS - IF THEY TAKE AN adc WILL WORK STRAIGHT OFF THE BAT"

then:
"WITH THE MODIFIED adc AND SPRING FROM LATER YEARS"

now I know you know what a bat is coz you play a girls game called "rounders" so no excuses now!

regards

Taffy
