Having been inspired by Rob and Ty’s early morning outings I decided to give it a go so at 4am on Saturday morning I switched off the alarm and went back too sleep.
Fast forward 24hrs and I’m up and getting ready to go out. All kitted up I have to bite the bullet and start the bike. Luckily the neighbours are out or still in a booze induced comma as it rather frightening how loud a bike sounds at 4am on a summer’s morning.
So I set off, travelling up the road from the house I pass through a dingle, its now I realise that the only thing the headlight is illuminating is the vaulted ceiling of the tunnel of trees I’m passing through.
I feel slightly guilty of disturbing the dawn as baby rabbits and other furry critters head for the hedges on my approach.
This furry critter though just looked at me with disgust.
Heading to the hills, queue banjo music, I made it to the tops and settled down on a bench next to a shearing pen just in time to watch the sun ride.
After a couple of cups of coffee and a bit of time trying to get all arty with the camera it was time to move on so decided to head across to a lane that was TRO’d a few years ago to see if it was open.
Heading across the hill cloud suddenly descended limiting visibility and making me thankful for the jacket I was wearing
From the hill it was a short trip along the tarmac and another short track to get to the start of the byway to find this
I last went across this track shortly before it was closed a couple of years ago and for any type of transport with a modicum of off road ability it was fine. In fact I recall the local farmer being in the paper, dressed in his tweeds and pointing at the alleged damage caused by vehicles, the fact that the ruts were from his own tractor ruts was never covered!
Beneath the new notice was the last one
Check out the first paragraph, “……until the route has been restored or 8th of May 2009…â€Â
