48hrs to FE570 ownership

Hi All,

Just did a deal on an 09 FE570. Bike is pretty clean having spent most of it's 10000km on road. Picked her up for $5800 with a spare set of motard wheels and some other spares. Bike itself has underseat LR tank (unsure if 70 degree racing product or another), map switch, radiator guards, pivot pegs and FMF pipe. The other contender was the 08/09 KTM530exc but I'd read a lot about oil issues and any km frightened me a bit, and very low km 8 year old bikes seemed a bit suspicious. Just wondering what a new owner should be looking out for or looking to modify early on. Vaguely recall something about an oil breather venting into the throttle body? It's my first dirt bike in 10 years (last was a KTM 640 Adventure) -my background is mostly road and track riding on Ducati super bikes, and while it may prove a bit of a handful at times the FE450 felt lacking, probably due to my diet of big V twins. The big thumper seemed to fit beautifully, even throwing in a surprise wheelie on the test ride. Intended use is half day "get out in the bush and explore" type rides with the odd overnighter. Already searching for luggage and loading options, and options for increasing oil capacity (I've seen the plumbed frame but was hoping for something like the Blais version for the 530exc). Any hints or suggested threads more than welcomed!

Now to see how long I can keep the bike a secret from the wife... :)

Regards,

Bowie570

Great to have you here. Check out Wolfman Luggage and I am sure you will enjoy your new bike. Allot here like the 570 and give it great reviews. Welcome :)

On 09's Odd thing about the wiring/electrics if put a charger on it the head light will come on and off. As far as I know not a problem. So just disconnect the positive to charge it. Frames on the new bikes are stronger at the steering stem. So if your a maniac off jumps it's something to look at upgrading. If you're normal you'll be fine with the way it is. Not a bad idea to get fuel pump at some point you'll need one. Rear of the bike is heavy and top heavy when you have to pick it up. You won't notice it at all riding it. front end is as light a 2 stroke. Your going love the thing. Just do normal maintenance and will almost all the time bring home. Do things to bring heat down under the tank (part of the problem with the fuel pump) be carful off road it has a lot of power!! But very manageable. Have Fun and welcome

Thanks all! As I have to hide the bike from the wife for a while I think I'll have time to give it a good going over before I bring it home. I'll do some searching about heat issues Rainerio. I've heard wolf man luggage recommended a lot so will definitely be checking that out.

Found a thread on another forum about known issues which will be a good starter. Hopefully not breaking the rules by posting a link, but if so I may be the shortest-lived member ever:

TomTom: you wouldn't be the same TomTom with a 1098 in 996/8 on another forum would you?

Timeline has come forward and I'll be riding her away in about 3 hours -woohoo!

I have used a giant loop coyote bag to Do Cape York and an additional 3000km - can recommend them, so add that to your list of possibles.
