Hello there I am wanting to get some more power out of a 01 FE470 - is it simply a matter of fitting 650 crank assy , piston and liner? Is there difference in engine cases- if its height can a spacer be machined up for the top of the barrel?
Is there a spot on the internet that list the different heights of piston ,conrods etc as I have a parts list but it gives no measurements.
The only reason that I want to try this is that a new 650 is $14700 here in NZ if I can covert mine for less than $4000 I will be a happy man

thanks

the 650 cases are guestimated to be avout 22mm taller than yours. in order to make a 650 you would need a 104mm rod which with the 80mm stroke is dangerously short. i'm not sure the bike would start even.

ben ballard has a spacer to go on the block between the head and block. try him.

i think you should try and get a set of used 650 cases if you can. the 470 also has the smaller valve head - 35/27, the 650 used to have 37/30 but abvout three years ago settled on 35/30.

the doc has all this for you under tuning.

I have priced out the bits that I think are needed for the job through bike bandit in the states- only because they show a price with the parts listing
650 crank assy $675
650 conrod kit $375
650 cylinder liner $290
gasket set complete $208
new set of 650 cases $1000

grand total $2548 with out the price of a piston kit

which works out to be about $3200 New Zealand dollars. The husabugs done 542 hours on the timer and is about due to have a freshen up , just have to decide which way to go standard or upsize. The problem is that there is very little in the way of second hand engines parts etc on the net so every thing has to bee brought brand new.
