20mm TC offset on 2005 FE550

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows how 20mm offset triple clamps off a 10/11 KTM 530 EXC will work on my 2005 FE550 E, I smashed the originals in the process of smashing my leg. I found these ones on ebay and from my research they may be an improvement over the original 22mm TC. I have never felt overly confident with the front end, it has never felt very planted and always wants to wash out so any improvement would be great.
Cheers

the 20s won't help with that problem but they are better.

Bergerwithdlot,

Please tell us about the bike.........

Is it bone stock?

Have you had suspension work done?

How much do you weigh?

Hey Dale
I have had the suspension done by Hayes Shock Treatment, it has a P25 Racetech spring on the back and the other needle mod he does to the WP shocks. The forks have gold valves and I think two spring weights heavier than standard. I weigh about 96kg fully kitted up.
I have a BRP top triple clamp with sub mount scotts damper, it is nearly torn in half and the damper post has been broken as well. I run a high seat as well.
As a minimum I need new triple clamps and RHS header as it is squashed, I will also need to check the forks for damage. While I'm layed up I have been surfing for parts and just figured if I can make any improvements while I'm at it I should.
Cheers
Joel

Not sure if this is same for your bike...

lifted off thread "arkleys on the move"

So ..new (2nd hand) KTM 08 450 triple clamps adjustable 18mm - 22mm.

These don't just bolt straight onto an FE 02...the whole bolt down system is different. The 02 Husa has a castle nut which you tighten to put the bearings under the correct pressure - then the top clamp just bolts down on top of that. The KTM 08 top clamp actually clamps down onto the bearings to an exact amount regulated by a turned shoulder on the through shaft preventing the clamp from over tightening on the bearings. Net result however is that it under tightens on the Husa bearing column. You'll need a series of large shims under the top clamp direct on top of the top bearing and add by trial & error till the steering is neither loose nor tight. I added 2no. shims totalling 2.2mm (1.4 & .8) made one & found the other (29mm ID / 40 – 48mm OD). Will add some photos later.
