2013 MODEL RELEASED

Translation:

- more compact engine allows a more compact overall layout of the bike: Goodbye 70 degree motor. Too bad, that.

- simplified routing of the header pipe eliminates undesired heat input onto the tank and airbox: A very good thing, if true.

- bigger airbox capacity: Either the tank no longer serves as the airbox, or the tank has more fuel capacity.

- reduced intake noise: A solution in search of a problem.

- lower centre of gravity of the engine and bike: By RAISING the cylinder to more nearly verticle? Not possible unless they gave up ground clearance to do it.

I think all this claims are justifications to corporate decisions or a prove of an inovative design that really doesn't bring advantages in terms of performance.
Another think that I don't understand is why husaberg try to make changes that really doesn't bring any plus, for example: why taking off the kick starter with the option of install it as an accesories and a rear triangle design in a different material of the ktms an still be heavier in 1 kg. ? What are the advantages of this differences between both motorcycles?

I'm really disappointed that the new bergs are just blue KTMs. Yeah the last bergs had loads of bits from KTM but they were still out there with the engine being 70 degrees. They say the new light weight engine negates the engine being at 70 degrees but imagine if they configured the new engine at 70 it would be better again. I just bought a 2006 FE550 and what an incredible bike and I love the basic engineering and now I can see why people love these bikes. Ive had RMZs CRFs YZFs KTMs and the berg just stirs your sole because you know it was designed by enthusiasts and now Husaberg has been consumed totally by KTM and and its hard not to feel its the end of an error.

Mad to think in the Enduro world championship the Ktm's 450 has been getting beating by the current 70* Husaberg all this year and they are killing it off by replacing it with a bike that they are winning . Also Knighter has proven the 500/New 501 is not a success and they have ditched the very popular and unique 570 for the 500/501??? I don't get it.

I think Ktm and sadly now Husaberg have a lot of issues with the 4t's they seem to be changing frame annually on the 4t models trying to improve it, 2013 features yet another new frame design since the last great 08 frame they have probably put so much money into the current Ktm frame they have not other option but to make Husaberg use it. Its a bit disappointing but hey Husaberg had a good platform with the 70* engine its a shame to see them kill it off.

Best everyone get rid of their 70 deg engined bikes before you can't get parts for it. No doubt that KTM will walk away from the parts business some time in the forseable future like they did for the Pre 2000 models. Im also hearing that much the same situation is happening to the bikes built from 2001 model to the introduction of the 2004 model.

The true Husaberg soul is now destroyed!

This is sad. I wanted to buy a new bike. But I will be keeping my 570. I rode a buddies 13 ktm 450 I did not like it. It does not feel anything like my berg :(

boys, boys, boys!!!!!!

they have to make parts for 8 years after a model has stopped by european law. :D :D

then they kill it stone dead.

rules is rules!!!!!!!!!

Very disappointed in the 2013 model. Looks like I'll be keeping my 2010 FE 390 for a long time to come. Seems a lot of others are thinking the same.

So that would mean by 2016 the pre 09 bikes could be cut off from parts.
I was hoping to keep my 05 650s running for a long time.

Seems that business wins over brains again, what a shame.

On a brighter note, those of us with 70degree motors have legends to live with for a long time. I have ridden the KTM 350 and it is substantially different from my 390, but can't see how the 2013 350 Husaberg will be any different from the KTM.

The future for me will be old school, just got my hands on an '04 501 and that is going to be fantastic when it is all fettled. The new 501's will most likely be a blue & yellow KTM anyway.

Wonder how much they would sell the Husaberg brand off for, shall we have a whip round???

Taffy, (not having a crack at you :D )
It's not a rule it's a regulation, and not something that they have to adhere to. There is nothing in the block exemption that says they have to stop making parts, it simply references that they must supply for a period of time post end of production.

Why is it I can walk into my local Suzuki dealer and ask for parts for my 1978 RM400 and invariably they have them or worst case they go on back order and I have them 2 weeks later.

I've had 9 Bergs (still have 3 of them) and I'd consider myself to be rather passionate about the Swedish manufacturer however the antics of the Austrian parent company leave me with such a bitter taste that I feel nothing but contempt towards them.

Hi Bahnsy
I have had Five Husabergs and I agree with you completely
It is interesting that a few of the readers just don't understand a great enduro bike design
If the parent manufacturer(KTM) tells the riding public the 2013 Husaberg is a step FORWARD because of dye cast cases from India and a better air box well let them believe what they read.
Let the magazines and KTM tell us what they want, but some of us know better.
I have over 16,000 miles on my 2010 FE570 and it just keeps getting better!
Imagine what the 70* Husaberg could have been with a few small updates as all other manufactures do with a newly released bike but NOOO KTM is discontinuing a great bike (only because of cost) that could have been even better.
My 2000 FE501 Husaberg was one of my favorite bikes (until the FE570) after I blue printed the engine for performance and reliably the 2000 was a great bike. A friend of mine still rides that bike today.
The 2013 Husaberg will be a good bike I will probably buy one The 2013 will probably be close in performance and better handling than my 2000 FE501 Husaberg!!
IS this PROGRESS I guess it is because KTM tells me so!!
At 20,000 miles I will completely restore the 2010 FE570 to new condition and ride it when I want to put a big smile on my face.
I will teach myself to be happy with the new improved 2013 Husaberg
I realize some of the readers don’t understand my abstract writing style from comments from past post but thy to understand what I‘m saying!
Have a great ride

Back in 2006 I had put togethor a list of things I wanted in a bike.
http://odsc.on.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7305

Three years later, Husaberg built it! (except for the variable valve timing) Ever since I saw the new '09 Berg I lusted for it. Yes, I have had some problems with it, but now that it is all sorted out, the bike is PERFECT for me.

It will be a long time before I replace the FE450. It is sad that KTM killed Husaberg innovation. I thought the whole Husaberg brand was a great idea since KTM has taken already over most of the market. Most of the starting lines at the races are mostly orange. A fresh brand like Husaberg, would allow them to sell more bike to riders wanting something different, which they have done over the last couple years. Now, these riders will probably go to Husky or GasGas.

hi haskell. did a pile of research before buying mine, what impressed me was the reliability after the dodgy fuel pumps and filters got sorted. just wondering if you've had to do anything engine-wise in that 16,000 miles? i've heard some guys haven't even had the valves move in that time! and what do you reckon the engine will need at 20,000 miles, just a top end rebuild or will you go the whole hog?

i'm interested coz looks like i'll be keeping her for a long time, now that the 2013 model is moving away from the kind of bike i want...

Hey hoosie5seventy a few answers
NO pump or pump filter problems. My bike was a early production FE570 2010.
I’ve had two issues both of which were MY FAULT not the design of the bike. The starter slip gear and clogged oil pump intake filter from clutch fiber. I have complete information on my previous posts. I had a fuel line quick connector in the tank come apart because I did not get all four tabs fasten correctly when I put a pro-fill pump filter sock on the pump.
I have the original fuel filter but I do run a pro-fill tank sock very important to keep fuel clean and fresh fuel (no water from ethanol fuel) in these bikes.
At about 3,000 miles I fixed the water pump seals, have not touch them since that was 13,000 miles back. I also have a complete post on the fix.
I have check the valves twice with no change, these bike have a great valve train design.
I change the oil (shell t6 full synthetic) at 600 to 800 miles.
I use a strong magnetic in the drain plug. I get no slivers and very little metal power wear on the magnetic and the oil screen is always clean.
At 20,000 miles I will replace valve stem seals and valve springs
Piston assemble Rod assemble, main bearings, sprocket out put shaft bearing, oil pump gears(two) and gear drive pins.
These bikes have a great piston thrust face that will last many miles, it will probably run much long than my replacement target but this bike gets rode hard so I won’t take a chance on a failure.
All other bearings and parts will be checked and replaced as needed.
I use Techron injector cleaner, check my post on this.
Very good engine and it is still mechanically quiet for a spur geared (straight cut primary drive gears) single cylinder, when compared to the new dye cast 500 KTM and most other single cylinder dirt bikes.
