2013 FE501 no spark

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2013 Husaberg fe501. While riding the other day the bike died on me. After loading the bike and getting it home I began trying to track down the issue. The bike turns over but I have no spark. I replaced the rectifier and battery. I am also getting 100 ohms off of the red/green pulse generator. The coil also appears to be testing within spec. This is a completely new bike to me and I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out this problem. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you all in advance!!
 
I have the KTM equivilalent and it died, luckily while loading it into the van, fuse gone.
Never happened before or after that, hmm. Funny thing is that on visual inspection all fuses looked good, and when resistance checking them aswell.
Replacing them did the trick.
 
I have checked the spark plug cap and it appears to be in spec. I tried cranking the engine with the cap off of the coil to see if the plug wire would arc to ground. No luck. Tom Tom, which fuses did you replace? The 10 amp or the 20 amp? Or all of the above? Thanks again everyone for your help and suggestions.

I replaced the coil, stator, pulse sensor and the rectifier. Still no spark!!!!! This thing is driving me crazy!!! Any help would be much appreciated.

I have ride bud with the same problem as yours on his -16 501 Husky, Ill have a chat and see if he solved it.
 
That would be great! I was doing further testing tonight and discovered that the 10amp fuse in position 1 (electronic control unit) is not getting any power. I checked all other fuse positions with a test light and all appear to be getting power except the slot I mentioned. Not sure where to go from here or where to look. Thanks again! I hope I’m getting closer to figuring this thing out.
 
His problem is with the ecu unit. He tried his ecu on another identical bike and it is not responding at all i.e completely dead. So if your ecu is responding thats not it.
 
How would I be able to check if my ecu is responding?

Im not sure about the US models. Does the the instrument light up and the fuel pump prime if you crank it? On euro models it will if all is well. So that would be a way to see if the ecu is responding, Im thinking.
 
I’ve checked and disconnected the kill switch. Still no luck. Any other ideas? I’m pretty stumped. Just don’t want to buy an ecu if that isn’t the issue. They aren’t cheap!
 
No, no fuel pump prime, pretty much nothing from the bike at this time. All it will do is crank over when the starter button is pressed. No signs of life anywhere else.

If you unhook the ecu will it still crank the engine pressing the start button? Unhooked Y/N
Never tried it and Id think no even on a working bike, can someone try and verify this on a known working bike?
Worst case I can test myself tomorrow, as my bikes are kept in a bunker away from home in the "new" sweden.

Do you have a wiring schematic? Should be in the back of your owner’s manual. The starter engagement is just the first step of the starting procedure. It’s pretty much a hardwired relay situation.

What needs to happen simultaneously is the ecm gets powered up, sees a tach signal, and authorizes the start. I would verify you have good grounds going to the ecm connector, and check for power on all pins that require it.

If your bike doesn’t have a stand alone ignition switch, then it has a main power relay not being turned on, which would power the ecm.

Without the bike in front of us, and looking at the schematic, it’s going to be tough to diagnose here.

The good part is the problem is present, so at least it’s not an intermittent thing. I would start with physically checking your ground wires on the frame. Not just visual, try to move them, wiggle them, etc.
 
I don’t have a wiring schematic, the manual the bike came with doesn’t appear to have one. It just has basic information. I may have to buy a shop manual if I can’t locate one online. The bike does not have a key so it is powered upon pressing the starter switch. If there is a mail power relay separate of the starter relay, I am unsure of its location.
 
Also I unplugged the ecu and the bike will still turn over. Checked all wires going to ecu and blk/whi wire I believe in position 12 in the ecu plug is the only wire with constant power. Is this correct? I’m starting to think it might actually be the ecu.
 
This isn't going to be an easy one as I'm royally failing to find a wiring diagram for your bike. The closest I can find is a Husqvarna FE501 from 2014 or a Husaberg FE450/570 from 2016 (I think).

Either way, before you remove any more hair, have you looked at the starter relay? I believe there's a fuse hidden in there that looks as if it supplies everything except the starter contacts...

I'll post more when I eventually find a real wiring diagram!

I am terrible with searching for stuff like that, but wouldn’t a KTM 500 xc/exc be the same or similar to the OP’s bike? That may expand your search options.
