it seems that husaberg is seriously supporting someone ( Berglund ) with a Dakar mission! Great news, you can follow the build at berglundracing.com . I bet Gazza can share some tips.. I hope this means Husaberg will help devellop some more aftermarket hardware.

good news for my 2012/2013 project! :bounce3:

seen this somewhere else a couple of weeks ago.

isnt he either in the Army or at least supported by them?

rode last years dakar on a ktm i think.

They are looking at having fuel tanks made, seeing it as the biggest problem right now.
Maybe the 4 gallon tank is not to their liking?, too top heavy perhaps?

In the Royal Lifeguard, I think.

the DALE tank + the Aqualine front tank gives 20 liter, if you add the saddletank ik wil be 28. Should be more then enough i'd say...

Yeah I was sure I posted something about that but now I can't find it.
I'm keeping an eye at the major swedish off road forum, where Thomas sometimes posts (and Annie as well), and you can be sure that when something pops up I'll relay it here

You can follow Thomas' progress at www.berglundracing.com Well, you can at least look at the pictures

Exactly! Which is why I think the possible fuel capacity is not the actual problem, it must be something else that is their concern regarding the available fuel tanks. Like center of gravity for instance?, I don't know.

Its $$$$ he has been given bikes but no $$$ for parts, so they are fabricating in the army workshops I believe

Is Norwegian Dakar rider P A Ullevålseter getting a Husaberg too? 8O

No, Ullevaseter is getting one of the new KTM 450 rallye bikes. He and Thomas will be sharing the same Swedish Army support truck that they have used the last couple of years.

For those that dont know Thomas Berglund came 12th outright last year on a KTM690RR...............he should go well on the Berg, top 15 and probably at times in the top 10.

With some luck he should bring home the first Husaberg to ever finish Dakar !!

It will be interesting to see if any other privateers decide to use a Husaberg in 2011 Dakar as for them the 570 is still allowed and I know it is a stronger bike than say a KTM 530 etc :D

Are you entering the Dakar this year Gazza?

nah, think I have done my Dakar dash unfortunately.

But I am pretty much locked in to go to Brazil in Aug 2011 to race the FIM Rally dos Sertoes which is a 10 day rallye very similar to the Safari here.

And also I am going to race the FIM Sardegna Rally in Sardinia Italy, in April 2011 which is 5 day rallye a lot like our Condo 750 rallye in NSW.

Both of these events are part of the 2011 FIM world cross country rallye championship series.

For the $$$ 1 Dakar race costs you could afford to do the whole 5 rounds of the FIM world championship cross country rallye events !!

Thanks for the update Gazza. I hope you do well in the FIM Rally's.
If you race any in NSW please let us know, I wouldn't mind going to watch a FE570 (or 610) at full noise go past.

it's also a great opportunity to move weight around on the bike.

fuel, battery, gubbins

I'll be coming over for Condo 750 next Easter for sure, wouldnt miss it, its a great event, did it '08 & '09 had to miss it this year due to the post Dakar time & $$ black hole

We should have a good Berg rallye team at Condo next year and yes the 610 WILL be there, gunna try it with a Rekluse EXP clutch.............should be a real fast lazy man's bike with all the grunt and auto clutch

1st Husaberg, Berglund, DNF due to a broken collar bone.
2nd Husaberg, Bodinger, DNF, the motor stopped running, they found later that no coolant was left in the motor and at least the piston was damaged. He did not see it boiling and it is still unknown where the coolant went.

Its really yoo bad both didnt make it. Bodinger came a long way, it was a tough one this year. The only good news is i could be the first to bring in a husaberg in the dakar, but i sure hope next year more bikes wil enter and finish the race. One is beiing built in hollande, where i am, right now. I will use some of the solutions this march in the libya rallye.

If you want to follow this log on to www.dakar2012.nl and tap the language you like best, google should translate this site fine for you?

My bet would be the laminates leaked on the head gasket and it was pumped out the over flow.

We had this happen on 2009 Safari till we fixed it by using Hylomar glue to glue the laminates together before use, never happend since. It only shows up on sustained fast high speed or high revs desert use as the frame head stay ever so slightly detensions the head enough for a leak to start on the inlet side where the water jacket is closest.
With now close to 50,000km of desert rallye racing over 2 years on the new Bergs we think we have seen most of the things to watch out for, this is one of them.

Overall the bike & motor is very reliable and with good prep will not doubt finish a Dakar or any other rally.
