Hi guys,

Hope you may point me in the right direction. I have a 2010 fe 390 that will run for 10 minutes then just die and won't restart. It will finally restart 4-5 hours later and run fine for 5-10 minutes the repeat same problem, Would love any advice or where to start to find the problem. Bike has 29hours.

Thanks!

When you tap momentarily the start button, can you hear the fuel pump spinning? Might be a fuel pump, typical with these bikes, this would be the first to check.

Next thing to check is the spark plug put a new one in and check the resistance of the the spark plug cap it unscrews from the wire should be 5k ohms.

Check Battery terminals clean and tighten

Checked plug and cap and all is good there. I sense a common theme being the fuel pump. Is there any thoughts on it being a fuel filter like some of the ktm's had with the smaller and larger microns size. Or is this a common thing that the fuel pumps work and then go out unexpectedly on these models? I had a 2010 570 that a friend had and is still working great and never had any fuel pump issues. Thank you for all the responses and appreciate the help.

There was a bad batch/design of fuel pumps in the first year and a half (or so). In essence, there are two changes: The fuel pump is upgraded from the bad pump that is recognizable by a brown housing to a good pump with a black housing. All bad pumps are brown afaik, so that's at least one way to check. Then the other thing is that there is an inline fuel filter just before the injector that was changed from a 10 micron filter susceptible to blockage to a 20 micron filter. The good filter has a gray housing and is a standard KTM part. I don't have more concrete info on hand, but you'll find the rest if you search using these hints.

its the fuel pump...................

Your bike is displaying the classic symptom of a bad pump. The rotor in the fuel pump gets hot and heat seizes in the housing. The 09's didn't have this problem.

Husaberg should replace this for you. They know the VIN's of the affected bikes.

Just to add a cautionary note to this thread.....

In August, I bought a 2012 FE390, with 7 hours and 135 miles. It has bee a joy to ride, up to yesterday.

While on a ride, the bike stalled. Symptoms were just like running out of fuel. Took seat off, check all connections to FI and bike started again and rode well for 10 mins. Same procedure several times through the day.....

Turns out the kill/run switch on the right hand side (above the start button) is faulty. The slightest touch and the bike stops. Fiddle the switch and the bike runs again.

New switch on order now......

Incidentally, i have also replaced the light switch (left handlebar, off/dip/main). This switch went faulty and open CCT on dip lights).

So the stock KTM switchgear is suspect. Have a good check before plumping for a new fuel pump.

Cheers

Derek
