2007 FE650 Build

Made some more progress this weekend.

Had a small setback though:

There was one clip left over after I re-assembled the engine. I thought it went on the output shaft to hold the sprocket on. I was in for an unpleasant surprise when I went to install the sprocket and my left-over clip was the wrong size!

Now where could it go? I did some more thinking and found it's place. Luckily all I had to do was pull the side cover and not split the cases.

Lost clip in need of a home. Anyone guess where it goes?

Found a spot for it!

Wiring is mostly done. Just need to mount radiator and plastic.

Almost there!!!! The only part I don't have is the water pump seal. I ordered that along with a few miscellaneous parts two weeks ago from Munn. The parts were supposed to be here today, but they didn't show up. Looks like I'll have to wait until next weekend to ride :(

On the bright side, the bike is looking good! I ended up fitting some Pro Taper bars instead of spacers. The bend is Pastrana FMX, which is 26mm taller than the common CR High bend.

Be careful with those Pastrana bars, your bike will want to backflip off of everything!

it looks basically brand new!
It looks like you could eat off it!
Thanks for the kind words, guys! It did clean up pretty well. I just hope it runs! ;)

Hahaa! I'll try to keep her rubber side down!

It's alive! It started right up and settled into a nice idle. No leaks either. Must have got lucky ;)

I removed the electric starter and battery to save weight, so I'll be kicking it from now on. I did alter the auto decompression mechanism a bit, and it seems to be working well. That and I'm sure having the valve lash in spec doesn't hurt either. It was a bit loose when I tore it down.

Cruised it around the neighborhood trying not to bother anyone. So far so good!

Have a look at the piston in the same spot as the grove, just above the top ring, you may find a small steel ball imbedded.
The sort a mig welder spreads around.

I had the same thing, and believe it was from welds done in the air box when the bike was manufactured:(

I was reading through the thread again and realized I didn't respond to this. Spanner, I think you're exactly right. I did find little round beads of steel embedded above the upper ring. A mig welder was probably the culprit.

Well, I was able to take it out after work today. Put in about 15 miles of woods. Really happy with everything so far. The suspension is stiff, but not harsh. I really like how much higher both ends ride in the stroke now. The back does feel a bit high, so I either need to increase rear sag, or drop the forks in the clamps, or maybe increase fork spring preload.

I did install a jet kit from Taffy. I have to admit that I was skeptical while installing it. Some of the changes seemed drastic, but it works really well! Starts on the first kick every time, runs clean, doesn't flame out any more... I couldn't ask for better.

Looks really nice, well done! Thanks for the info, I might even give those bars a go on mine.

Thanks! The bars are working out really well. Nice to be able to fit my legs under them in the turns!

Went riding over in Bend on Saturday. Put in about 40 miles before a buddy's bike broke down. The Husaberg ran great! The engine is smoother than it's ever been. Tightening the piston to wall clearence was a good move.

I think I'll step down to the P25 shock spring when I get a chance. The .52kg/mm fork springs feel great, but overall the bike is a little unbalanced due to the rear being overly stiff.

Anybody want a P30 shock spring? It's yellow ;)

three questions:
what is your race sag?
what is the length of the spring on the bike with the weight off it?) try and get a tape in there)
what was the free length when you started?
