Jedi, Fry, Boss, and I are headed down to Gorman (Dude) CA right now, hoping to capture a top spot in the test with our 2006 FE550e. Unlike last year's test, this year it is "Run what you brung", no displacement or modification limitation. I'll try to update the site as the test rolls on.

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

Hey, why am I never invited?
Is it my "Does Not Play Well Others" reputation?
I am quite capable of civil conduct in public thank you very much. LOL

Seriously, best of luck gentlemen (Yes, even you Rick :D ).
Please do keep us posted.

Best Regards,
Dale

Best of luck in Gorman!

If the Dirt Rider Mag boyz think the FE550 is fast in the dirt I wonder what they would think of the FE650.

Looking forward to reading the results.

For the same reason I don't run a machine shop / dyno, Dale

Thanks for the good wishes.

Maybe Dale could be useful washing the Husaberg after the test?

Holy Moley. Those open trail systems at gorman will be like wide open freeways for the Fe550e. That bike will be like a light speed superhero amongs boys compared with 450s on those trails. What fun!

Maybe you can get up in the LPNS forest trails too some.

I assume you're bringing a new 2006 fe550e, a 450 too? I could donate mine to the cause for an invite. :)

Thank you for your interest in the event, but I must clarify that it's anything but casual. It is a motorcycle industry public relations event more than anything else. Because the evaluations of the motorcycles are based largely on the subjective reactions of the journalists (in the two weeks AFTER the 24hour test), being at Gorman is mainly about PR and keeping the bikes on the track. No recreational riding, our only extra bike is a spare which we have on hand in case we need serious replacement parts. The course is a closed loop, probably 25-30 miles, mostly beginner / intermediate level terrain. Completing the 24 hours only QUALIFIES us to move on to the next part of the test. So we've tried to leave nothing to chance. Everyone on our team has been carefully screened by a team of physiological and behavioral scientists. Similar to the NASA astronaut qualification process, I'd say.

The trailer is loaded, refreshments are laid in, and we're ready to roll.

Cheers

Sounds absolutely dreadful.
I would sooner gouge out my eyes than shmooze. LOL

Work your magic and once again, the very best to all of you.

Sincerely,
Dale

So if you want to attend this event you must have been previously committed by a psychiatrist.

Maybe it's not too late for Dale to schedule an appointment with a shrink?

No need as I have already been certified criminally insane with homicidal tendencies. Where did you say you live?

Too bad this wasn't known beforehand, you could have all gotten a "group rate" :D

Best of luck guys! I talked to BOSS when he was setting up the bike, sounds like your going to rip them all up. After it's over and you have kicked everyone's butts come on over to Phoenix and let the group ride fellas really torture test that bike!

I just called Jedi to see how things went as I thought that the event was over yesterday. He told me that it had only started this morning and that they were 4 hours into it. "So far so good" was his quote. He said that BOSS was just coming in from after putting in some laps and they were switching riders. I could hear the big Ol' 550 rumbling in the background.

Man I wish I was down there instead of being stuck here in the snow :(

Hopefully the guys will have fun and that the Berg will do as well as it did last year.

nsman,

I would not have phoned him earlier if I had known they were still in the middle of it. Although I would love to get an update I doubt they need me bothering them. Hopefully they will give us an update tomorrow when everything is finished.

Besides, unless something has broken, I figure that they only thing they will be able to say right now is that everything is going okay.

Stop cursing at me Bruce..... :D

Dirt Rider test ended about five hours ago, and all went very well. Bike was super, riders were great, BOSS did one of the fastest laps of the event when racing with Danny Laporte. Since it's not really an apples to apples test, there is no way of knowing how we stand, but finishing the 24hrs is just the "qualifier" to be evaluated in the test this year, and we passed with flying colors. Our team ran really smoothly, Fry was his usual efficient self, Dan Watt was stylishly fast, and Big Leo kept from getting wedged in the ravines. More in a sec...

Looks like it was clear and cold, lots of fun but cold.

Can't wait for the full report and some action shots.
