have a few questions from my old neighborhood...

05 FE 550

What "items" were of concern with the 05 and subsequently addressed by the Swedes since then?
E Start?
Water pump seal?

Anything to be concerned about with the 05 or is the 04 and above where things were really tightened up in terms of reliability and related for the yellow steed?

Thanx all!

05's a good bike. The waterpump seal is hit or miss on any berg.
Now....quit thinking about it and just buy one. Come back to the fold brother!!

There were some bearing boss case changes for the 07 550, and the 05 factory suspension settings were a bit harsh if I remember correctly, otherwise, excellent bikes, I would buy one in a heartbeat...we are still enjoying our 05 FE650e...with no problems.

Yes, I agree. but mostly the front suspension soaking up small rocks at speed for me. I have my suspension set at stock for Compression and rebound except for the Forks. I'm one click softer on compression, stock on rebound. For my weight at around 200 lbs I have had success with this ratio on other bikes also. Sometimes stock on compression one click harder on rebound. This gives the tire a little extra traction in the corners instead of pushing through it. In theory one softer on compression, stock on rebound should produces a similar effect for my 05 650. It feels like it does.

reason for the questions......

I was getting ready to purchase a few months back, Boss was fantastic in helping me out etc...but family/work and other junk got in the way.....
now Im back into the groove!

so..............

I found a new FE550 (2005) for $5k before tax etc, dont have an email on what they are going to sting me on freight, set up etc....

Still may try to find an 08 FE and run with it.....for the engine/crank bearings and longetivity

but the 550 is the one I am searching for.....

If your going to go a Berg then go the 08 as from 06 onward they received the better counter balancer. Much better counter balancer. And the 08 is the last of run of that model so should have most things ironed out......

If you were in Australia I would tell you not to buy a 550 or a 650....
