2004 FE450 oil leaking at case halves

Thanks Hacker33 for the explanation. Does this help significantly?

the dual springs are softer overall so the parasitic power loss from operating the valve springs is reduced

the kibblewhite DVSK reduces the loads by the most significant amount but is the most expensive, ktm set is cheapest.

#PNs specs etc here

the decomp spring is easy to modify if you can be bothered, details here http://husaberg.org/mechanical/16121-decompression-spring-2.html

ive seen really bad case join leaks repaired with sikaflex 221, bike is turned upside down, cases degreased thoroughly with water based detergent and a generous (thick) amount of sika bog pasted over the area, there is a dr650 over here with a repair like that 60 000km and still going :D

04 husaberg start problem

hey there guys,
I had start issues for a while on one of my 04 550 replaced battery and still no luck, later found one of the battery leads had broken quite a few copper wires in it , not getting enough current through to turn it over.
maybe something to check also.

Thanks for the info everyone. Bushmechanic, I appreciate the info on the valves. I will look into getting a set and also the Sikaflex 221. Looks promising and way easier than splitting the case. Will be ordering one of Taffys decomp springs and installing that.
Enginenumber thank you for the tip on the wiring. That thought never crossed my mind. I will be sure to check that this evening.

The oil in the intake tract is normal. It bothers some. You can always do a "breather mod". Nice thing about venting the crankcase to somewhere else besides to the carb is that in the unlikely event you flip the bike over upside down your cylinder and carb will not fill up with oil.

If tipping bike upside down is an unlikely event you're not riding tough enough terrain!! Get it dirty!

sikaflex 221 or threebond 1207b

sika221 is a polyurethane and dries strong

the threebond 1207b is a solvent free roomtemp vulcanising silicone can handle 370deg C and oil but its a bit soft for under the engine unless you run a bash plate

both are very good, make sure to degrease with water based detergent

FWIW,

Small oil weep in front of case. Is the case cracked by any chance? Have the case bolts came loose and have you checked torque? Nothing is going to make a case leak other than damage or poor seal so I would look into that. You could drain the oil pour in a solvent and drain. As this is a lower leak at a bottom point, try putting in a sealant as mentioned when dry, then drain and fill with fresh oil and add the sealant additive. This might stop the leak if you can not find the reason for the leak like crack or loose bolts. If you are not wanting to split cases this is an alternative.

I do agree to the tight valves as they might have wear and be to tight.

Hope you find the issues :)

With the breather...run a tube over the top of the frame in front of the tank and down the other side ....use reticulation fittings on tube where it goes over the frame as you must not kink the breather.

With the starting try just using the kick start if it starts well when you stand on a milk crate and out engine piston at top dead centre before st as ring etc then it could be your starter. I think you should only use the e start as re start when motor hot and oil warm.
