Hey guys. Other than the basic engine upgrades needed for this year, is there anything specific to the 550cc bike that needs tending to?

"The Doc" pretty much covers it....other than there were no 2002 FE550's made by Husaberg

 No wonder I haven't been able to find any information on-line about it.
Guess I'll need to speak to the gentleman a little more about what bike he actually has.

Thanks berger.

Well, have emailed back and forth a bit with the owner and this is what I have found out.
He is the original owner and bought the bike in '02. It is a 550, it has e-start, it is a 6 speed and has an 18" rear wheel. Sure sounds like an FE... :?

You could convert an FC550 to an FE, but at great expense. Most likely it is a 501....hey ,maybe it's a 650. First year FE550 was 04. It had the jap ignition and carb installed.

I spoke with him on the phone today and he is adament (sp) that it's a 550 and he bought it from the dealer this way. Maybe it's an FC conversion the shop did and he's not aware of it.
At any rate, I'm more than likely going to buy this bike regardless. It dropped a valve so it needs work. It does however have a new cam, cam sprocket (steel one) and followers. I'll upgrade all the internals when I rebuild it.
I'll post up some pics when I take possession of it.

but that FC could be a 4 or 6 speed (and other small, more subtle differences..) that's where folk start thinking: two models....

Taffy

A little more information. I should have brought this up earlier but the bike has a front number plate instead of a headlight and no tail light. I didn't think anything of it before. Duuuuhhh... It really sounds like a converted FC. The number on the cylinder is 5532032.

its not a big deal having an 18" rear wheel or any other little bits fitted. fact is: it's a FC550.

can we move on and talk about gearing now please?

What would you like to discuss regarding the gearing? I'll be talking to you about parts pretty soon. Gonna mail a check to the gentleman on Monday then post up on U-Ship and see what kind of a deal I can get on shipping.

Okay, here it is. Most definately looks to be a converted FC.

Since FCs didn't have a kickstand, one was installed.

Damage to the head from a broken valve.

The rest of the parts.

The engine that's going in the bike. 2008 FE550 complete with carb, carb boot, ignition with coil and throttle assembly, purchased from another inmate.

Well you certainly have a nice motor to put in the 02 frame! Will she be a kick-start only?

not saying you can't but you're going to have a lot of trouble getting the ignitions working! the two are totally different systems Brucifer.

the head is easily repairable and I caught a chunk out of sight and that must be skimmed smooth and flat as well.

the original engine that you have needs these changes
later tensioner blade
later decomp with modified spring
look for "tuliped" inlets and have them machined straight as they are 160 bucks each- then seats cut
clutch drum will be all slotted so neutral will be a pig to find
gear selector - grind the edges where the metal is spreading - helps gear change
carb worn
sledge mod / do your own or mine?
put sealed cam bearings in as opposed to the open ones it has now

with regards electric start

starter repair kit
upgrade starter motor
CTZ7s battery

look at the doc for setting the ignition timing correctly

upgrading the ADC will be cheaper/more expensive depending on whether you have an alloy cam sprocket or not and if the cam shoulder protrudes as to whether you have to have this machined off or not.

Taffy

Logjump- The bike is set up for e-start as well as the new engine, so, it will be e-start and kick.

Taffy- Why will it be hard so hard to get the ignition working? I know they are two different systems. Does the Kokusun have a seperate CDI that I failed to get?

You might want to consider updated rockers, couterbalancer and steel cam gear as well.

Judging by Taffy's response, he didn't read that you've already purchased the 08' 550 motor or comprehend the fact that it came with everything you listed. I think you're gonna have awesome bike with the motor swap and it should be easy peasy! Congrats.

Thanks a lot logjump, I appreciate it!
I contacted the gentleman I bought the engine from earlier today and will have the CDI and wiring harness on the way to me tomorrow. So now, hopefully, the swap WILL be easy peasy! Thanks again.

you are a pair of tarts aren't you! :D :D

started with coil and I was right to point out that there is a fair bit of work involved. now you have the black box coming and you can mount everything on the correct brackets and make something for the coil and.....

when it's all done tell me it was "easy"!!!

lets talk gearing and get back to the real MEAT of the subject?

tried 15/45 the other night and it was far better than 14/42 and that was wayyyyyy better than 13/39
