Hello, my name is Scott, I am from Tucson, Arizona, in the US. This seems like an excellent site for Husaberg anything. I have been reading past posts, just to read them and to try and figure out fuel issues or just running issues ion general. I have found a lot of helpful info, but I have not found specifically what might pertain to my 470's issues. If anyone wouldn't mind helping me to refer to any past post or any new info for jetting on this bike that would be very helpful. I know the stock settings should be/ what I have it in now are:
attimizer tube DR270, now DR266
needle k51, on the 3rd clip, now k35 on 2nd clip from bottom of needle
main or secondary 190 now 185
primary or idle 33 now 35
chok,45, now 45

I have new jets on order, as we speak through Premier Motorsports in Phoenix, AZ to go back to stock settings, with a 40 choke jet also.

Why is it set up this way? I do not know. It was set up this way when I got it 4 years ago and it actually it had a 172 main and on the very top clip of the needle, I just recently added the 185 main and put the needle on the 2nd clip from the bottom. Our elevation is approx. 2400 ft. and it is usually hot and dry, if that makes any difference. Also the head and the top end have just been recently redone, with only 5 hours of riding on them. And now it starts to smoke for a couple of minutes after a cold stat, blue smoke that is. To finish off it is kind of hard to start cold, very hard to start hot, and starts fairly easy in between, with one or two kicks. Sorry so wordy, I just wanted to give some what of a clear picture. Thanks for any suggestions.

whato husaberger

welcome to the site mate. can't believe how that nik has never benn used before!

husabergs don't smoke as a rule. if they do it means that you've had a partial siezure at some point and half the piston is on the wall of the bore and the rings are seized in their grooves.

but that's just my opinion!

as for the jetting well it sounds like you're on the right course.

I agree with taffy about the smoke. Probably rings if the top end was done recently. I had the same problem with an 01 470, went after the valves first, ended up being the rings causing the smoke. The bike was very hard to start as well, all the valves were badly tuliped.

I would ask how is the valve adjustment? How does it run once it is started? Have you checked your stator?

Thank you Taffy and HusaSaint. I will talk to the guys at Premier sinse they just rebuilt it.
Yes it has a new stator, and once it is running I dont want to stop riding its the best bike Ive ever owned, when it decides to run.I dont know if it is just mine or they all are very finiky. I have pretty much have never been able to use the electric start. Only when I first got it and even then it was only when it was hot, or had been running?

So even when the smoke goes away after a couple minutes you still think its rings and not the valves, or both consiquently?

Thanks again I have been stressed out about what to do about this bike because I have spent $2500 for the head and top end, and it still only runs every once and a while.

But I do love the bike ,and everything they are about, I just dont think the bike loves me?

putting the piston in the bore can be a *******! there are three oil rings all are seperate - yes three! there is a thin top ring, a corrogated strip of wire 1mm wide that looks like the top of a castle wall in profile and then another super thin ring to finish. the oil ring can overlap itself easily. rather like if you put your knuckles face to face = correct and wrong is when one ring jumps over the other end and sits like you have hooked the fingers of one hand over the fingers of the other (imagine two people, one pulling at each elbow and you have to keep your hands together entwined).

i would think for that $2,500 you got a new piston c/w rings and a 'honed' barrel?

i STRONGLY suggest that should they decide to pull it down and do it again, that they check the bore for ovality. if it's warped then i'm afraid you need a new linar. it's often over looked.

Taffy
