The guy who owns the bike knows Dan and evidently has helped wrench on bikes for Dan.
But yes, Motoexotica was the shop I was trying to think of earlier.

Well, I'm back to the original 650. :D
The guy with the 501 suddenly felt it was too much effort to sell the bike and decided to keep it.
I've got an ad on U-Ship now. Hoping to get a reasonable quote on transporting the bike to me.

I'm looking at a few bikes in that area, may be able to get it to Medford, Oregon.

That's extremely cool of you to offer but I think I have a shipper.
Still have to finalize the deal with the owner of the 650 and am hoping my XR600 will sell before I do that.

I have 2 people interested in the XR but they're from out of state and are trying to set up a shipping deal as well. Had an inquiry from another person this morning too but like the others, is far away.

The XR sold and will be on its way to New York soon.
My shipper is booked and paid for and the check for the bike will be in the mail in a day or two. I didn't know the owner didn't have paypal until I wanted to lock the deal and send him the money--hence the check.

I'm relying on you guys to help me keep this bike in prime running condition (with your knowledge and parts sources) for years to come. :D

The '01 and '02 650 bikes were the ones that originally got me wanting a 'berg back in '02 when Dirt Bike Magazine did a couple of tests on the FX650E. It even had the same graphics kit as the one I'm buying. They raced it at Elsinore in one issue and put it up against the Honda XR650R and KTM 520EXC in a 3 way comparison in another.
In their last line describing the mighty Husaberg they said "If you want the lightest and fastest, there's no where else to go."

Man, it seems like forever since I bought this bike. I want to ride!! :D

I spoke with the shipper yesterday and he said one of his other runs was delayed and I should see my bike around the 6th-10th of March.
Come on March 6th to 10th! lol.

Well, I received the bike yesterday. Fork seals need replacing, shock shows signs of leaking but the worst thing is--NO SPARK! Dam it! Gee, I wonder why that is---SEM!
I'm a little disappointed to say the least.
I emailed the PO and asked him when the last time it ran was and he said a couple weeks before I first spoke with him so, that would probably be two months or so.
Man, I'm just really bummed right now.....

I know it can be fixed, I was just not wanting to have to work on it and spend more money before I even get to ride the dam thing.

On the plus side, the bike overall looks solid and doesn't appear to have been beat on.

There is some oil weep around the back and underside of the engine. Need to inspect it and hopefully not find a crack by the swingarm bolt hole.

I had oil on bottom of engine... turned out to be shift lever seal. Slow leak. Relatively easy to replace. In theory, the side case doesn't need to come off at all, but it makes it easier if it does. Maybe this is your problem too...

hate to hear it. have you measured the stator resistances yet?

Not yet, Ned. But, I've been messing around with it here at work and managed to get some spark.
Pulled the plug again and, after having a charger on the battery for a while, spun the engine over with the e-start and I had spark! Not great but it's there.
Kicked it and had spark there too but not as much as when spun over by the e-start.
I'm doubting I can kick it over fast enough with the plug in to still have spark though.

Need to get a new battery and check the valve clearance.

I actually got it to spit back through the carb once on the e-start.

Thanks, I'll give it a look.

Holy sheep dip, it runs!
Went down to the garage after dinner to replace the voltage regulator on my Buell and thought I'd give the 'berg a few kicks just to see what happens and, low and behold, it lit off!
Rode around my yard a bit and it seems to run well. Throttle's responsive, the transmission shifts like butter, clutch feels good.
I'm extremely happy with this bike now! :D

But I have to wonder--why was it not sparking before and after I spun it over a few times with the e-start and plug out, it regained spark?

it was your plug. they just get fed up with it all. they lose the will to light up!

The odd thing is, I cleaned the plug (glass bead, carb clean and compressed air) and still had nothing. Tried a new plug as well--same result.
It was only when I spun it over with the e-start that I began to see signs of life.

Oh well, I'm just happy the thing's running now.

I'll just plan on replacing the stator and coil in probably the not too distant future.

Taffy, you sell reconditioned coils, don't you?

depending on the conditions (lighting, plug, etc) a spark is sometimes hard to see. when you use the estart, the cdi voltage is boosted from the battery (but estart on an 01-02 is shaky at best).
get the valves right, tend to the auto decomp, perhaps mod it to the "dutch clog" with a steel cam gear / cam machining, maybe an upgrade to an r6 starter, and it will be the easiest of all the berg models to start.
glad it's working out ok.

Thanks Ned. :)

you shouldn't clean a plug with glass bead. not an iridium or palladium coated one anyway!

even if you only saw one spark - it means your I.M is running fine! the stator on the other hand could still be the culprit.

Well, dangit. I was supposed to go on a ride today on the 'berg--and it wouldn't start.
Had to ride the trusty old TT500.
It was all single track--barely any trail at all-- first and second gear work in nasty root infested loam with wet clay underneath--and it was pouring down rain the whole time. Fun, fun!

I know I've said it before but, riding these old kidney pounder dirt warriors really makes you appreciate modern suspension.
