So the 4 gallon might fit a 2000? The Clarke tank I've found seems to indicate 2001 650's and some other bikes...

It should bolt right up to a 2000 ........But......... the kickstarter will probably have to be modified (shortened) or possibly use a 2006 kickstarter as it must also be used on the 2001-2005 models in order to use the tank. I don't recall anyone fitting one of these tanks to a 2000 model. You will probably be the first.

Check out a 2006-2008 Fe550 for low cost, power, reliability, ease of maintenance and choice of aftermarket parts.

Add the Clarke tank, plug in cooling fan, some armor and go have fun.

those are a little more then the initial budget!

I can fab almost anything not made out of aluminum or titanium, well at least as long as it doesn't take welding!

I just so happen to have a 2000 model in the garage and a 4 gallon tank. Never tried to mount it. I will see how it looks tonight.

did you get a chance to try this out?

Sorry....
Been unconscious a few days. I looked at it and it appears to be no problem if you use the 06 kickstarter.

Berger is correct, I have a 2000 501 and have fitted it with the four gallon Clarke tank. You will need an 06 kick starter or modify (shorten) the original.

So back to the 470, would wear items like the clutch and brake pads be easily sourced from a ktm dealer? what about a forest service approved exhaust, i'm pretty sure the thing does not have a spark arrest or meet the sound requirements... Have not bought anything, but i am watching 470 that has almost no interest generated in it... the 600 i was thinking about was sold before i could drive the four hours to go see it...

Some parts are interchangable with KTM. Most engine parts are not. There are a few Berg dealers with adequate parts inventory. Most can have your parts to you in a couple of days.
ProMoto Billet makes a spark arrestor endcap for the 470.
