Don't let anyone tell you different......2009 FE450 Husaberg flat out rocks!
Starting our Australian Dealer 2 day trail ride aboard the new FE450's saw 15 Dealers take up the offer to test this amazing new bike ( I have movement thinking about it as I write). Anyway we all set off riding some 70km to a popular riding area outside Sydney taking in some casual trails, nothing demanding or challenging just easy riding. We all got safely to the main trails and then it all began! In and out of tight trails this baby feels very similar to a 250F enduro bike with the ease in which it changes directions and it's sure footedness in rocks and exposed roots was super. The fuel injection is bloody terrific! it will not cough, bog, splutter no matter what you do, too taller gear, land off a jump (even up a gear!) you just cannot make it falter, Husaberg R&D have done a magnificent job in the mapping. The suspenders are very well sorted too, I weigh in at a very stealth 108kg full kitted up (just for you Ozberg) and it works a treat!I may try some heavier springs latter. After some big landings and G-outs it did not bottom metal to metal not to say I didn't use up all the travel offered but there were no nasty sounds from front or back when slamming through the forest. It really is that easy the change directs on eg. railing a corning and you notice a huge rock or similar on your line you can simply change line mid corner with ease and not lose any momentum and just keep on going and when flicking between trees on a single track you know 2nd,3rd,4th gear trails the Berg goes exactly where you point with no fuss at all. Back to the motor...it is very grunty and will lug up the nastiest of climbs and if you ride a gear taller she just finds traction nicely. The throttle response is something that I am not used to, as it is VERY responsive and even in the wrong gear by a mile it will do its best to keep going, which is good if you just to tired/lazy to be in the right gear.
The Dealer network did approx.230miles (mine was still in miles and I just wanted to ride and not muck around changing the settings over) and I have to say the hype is totally correct about this bike and maybe even understated, having riden 4 strokes for the past 13yrs this one is most definately the best I've thrown a leg over( and I've ridden some pretty sharp bikes) so if you are in the market for a new bike and you get the chance to ride one and you don't buy one, you were never going to buy a new bike!
So with that....2009 Bring it on!
Best Regards

feedback on 2 days with a 2009 Berg...

Hey Sutto
This is the wife of a wannabe new Husaberg owner, once he flogs the smik KTM in the shed...
Your feedback is much appreciated, as this decision is a BIG one...
We've also watched the U-Tube test in Greece, and have been listening to, and reading all info possible, for nearly a year now. As a near on 48 year old rider, 'honey' constantly seeks the best ride for comfort, and is nervous about changing over... Do you think the HB can provide a better ride than a 300KTM with rekluse clutch, etc, over terrain experienced in Western Australia?
cheers ! Steve (typing by wife, Sue)

RE: feedback on 2 days with a 2009 Berg...

Hi Steve/Sue,
The Berg will be very nice and a Rekluse from a 2008 KTM450 should fit straight in (checking pn# today) having riden all the KTM range the Berg is a very easy bike to ride for any distance. Normally I am a little sore the day after where we were riding but today I feel only a little tired, where as on other bikes my shoulders etc. are sore.(and if you have seen me you will notice I don't train anymore to go riding...one for you Ozberg). but if you have any questions you can call me at the shop or even drop in as I have a 2009 on display now.
Best Regards

Fuel Economy

Sutto,

Thanks for the review. Reviews like that boost the confidence in purchasing one, even though you are a dealer (no disrepect intended).

My main concern is the fuel tank size and the range of the bike. What is the fuel range/economy like? I understand that the riding style/terrain/speed are all variables, but would it be reasonable to expect 100km to a tank?

Cheers

Brendan

RE: Fuel Economy

Hi BLC,
The fuel range is very good, our first fuel stop was 72miles (120km) and my bike took approx 5-6ltrs so I reckon that a range for trailriding will be around 140km which is fantastic! Fuel injection just gives the best economy and response.

Sutto,

Awesome , and i must say a little relieving, to hear that the 09 comes up to expectation. Sounds like the Berg name could be mainstream soon, a little sad for the loyalists, but generally great for the brand.

I think i have given you a complex mate. I cant believe there is 108kg in that little winsy, teeny body of yours. Surely you must have been carrying 20 litres of Endura!

And hey, I don't have the girls perving at me, so there you go. Even if they are the fat chicks!!!

Go the Berg's

Hey Sutto
Grunt just showed his bike to all attending at his shop tonight . By all accounts he mimics what you say .
Spent some time this afternoon going over it , sneaking a looksee for Carbon Bling , It is all that & more .
The build quality is first rate , Dare I say better than KTM , but definatley more inventive .
Going to testride the 450 tomorrow I think Ill get that instead of the 570
Mick

When are you taking delivery mickj? Make sure you post your Carbon bits for all to see. Could be start of the carbon revolution. Though if they have fixed some of the stupid exhaust positioning that could be bad for business.

Ozberg
Hows it going
Theres quite a bit I will be doing on the new one starting saturday.
Header guard , fuel tank shield , clutch & ignition covers , fuel tank side covers , Bash plate, & frame guards not to mention the carbon front & rear brake disk cover Im already making ,oops their secret for now ,Bugger cats out .
Mate first chance you get don't hessitate have a look you'll luv it
Mick

Yeah, seeing them again tomorrow. Spied on Sutto and his dealer gang the other day (he didn't invite me in for a beer though!!). Dunno if I'll get a ride or not. Suttos demo day on the 26th will be a great opportunity to really give it a burl in the bush.

Looking forward to seeing the bling. I love your carbon stuff. i have been using the same pants for 9 months (no return jokes required Sutto) with no holes!! A couple of falls and the rear muffler guard has saved my leg too. Good stuff Moto Composites.

Hi Ozberg,
Sorry mate I didn't even know you were that close! If I had of know you were lurking around I would of got you in for a brew. I've got Geoff and Ric Braico coming up for the day and Ric will be setting the loop up for us, I'm also going to contact a famous rider for Team KTM Australia to come along as well because Ithink he can add a bit of flare to the day!
Best Regards

Sutto,

Fast becoming an extravaganza "medium" fella. Really looking forward to it.

Guys, I saw 8 of the 09 450's today, and i have to say the resounding opinion from all walks is extremely positive. Keep your eye out in the next month throughout Australian media for opinions. I am very confident they will make all us loyalists happy.

8O Ozberg & sutto
Rode Grunts demo today
All I can say is F------------K
Its all you say & more in my opinion , so smooth in the power delivery yet still very strong for a 450 . No hickups or hesitation , they have done their injection 1 on 1 homework.
the motor is quiet no nasty rattles or bangs when you lug it pulls like a freight train but is deceptively fast .
Handles like a 125 yet very stable & settled in turns yet very stable in rocks
Makes a KTM feel like a tank.
Now what to buy 450 or 570
BTW I have already made a exhaust shield for it , their about a week away .
Sutto if you want one for your demo let me know
Mick

I have just finished four days at Intermot bike show in Germany and spent plenty time crawling over the 'Berg....tastee :D My money is down

Sutto,

Thanks for the reply, 140km trail range sounds good.

I've ordered the 450, so I guess there is no turning back. :D

Looking forward to the new steed.

I spoke to our dealer here in WA today and Marty from Top Gear in VIC and both say the same as Sutto.....................sounds great, Marty also said he was getting 160km range out of his demo 450 '09 this last weekend riding at a pretty fast trail/pseudo racing pace !!

Not long now and Santa will be bringing a nice new 570 all gift wrapped yeeehaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey sutto & all other who have ridden one,

How do you think one would go as a race bike for enduro's and sprints? (AORC etc) Been riding a 200exc this year and tossing up what to ride next year. Love the handling of the 200 but just looking for a bit more torque/punch/smoother power and a bit more stability. Was thinking of a 250excf with maybe a 280/300 kit in it but not so sure now after hearing all the reports about the berg.
Only thing that worries me about the 450 is it maybe wearing me out a bit faster when racing it due to the extra grunt and weight.

Cheers

Hi Mate,
There is no doubt the bike is a winner! but you do have a valid point about the drive of the motor, it is very good in that department, but where you save energy from not having to muscle the bike to change direction you can use on holding yourself up on the front properly and hence, make the bike steer the way it is meant to.
If you are in Sydney you are welcome to come out on the 26th of this month to our Demo Day there is another post about it on the forum or call me on 02 47311173.
If you do decide to go down the 280 kitted bike I do have bikes 2008 & 2009's and big bore kits available.
And if you want a 400cc 2009 Berg I think I can make one for you as well, it would be a little softer on the power but still have more than a kitted 250 and all the attributes of the Berg? Food for thought?

I know someone who is keen to sleeve a new Berg '09 450 down to 250cc, a bit like the first KTM 250 RFS motors. It would be used for more open terrain rather than single track.

Do you think it is doable at all ??
