I'm considering my first Berg (2002 FX650e). My question and concern is parts avaiblity here in the states. Are there enough race shops that key motor parts are here in the US??? I can understand waiting about a week but two and three weeks is unacceptable. The FX I'm looking at has had Dale Lineaweaver build the motor and has low hour on the bike which is a plus. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tat (Jay)

Parts are readily available from a few different dealers.
Where are you from tat guy?

I'm just outside Philadelphia Pa, I've heard good things about the Bike Barn and Premeire. Can you tell me if the bike I'm looking at is good or bad???

Thanks Tat

I scolded someone once for saying this, but must digress and say the same.
Steer clear of the 01' & 02' big bore Bergs (03 only being slightly better).
Unless many updates have been done, you'll be heading into a world of heartache and a much lighter wallet.
Even if the upgrades have been done, these three years are very prone to the dreaded case crack at the swingarm.
Look for an 04' model or newer. The extra money spent, will most certainly be money saved.
I can no longer bite my tongue and watch a Husaberg newbie delve into the worst years of Husaberg. If you buy this 02 650, it will not only be your first Berg, but will most likely be your last. I say this as a Husaberg loyalist since 1997!

Is the bike your looking at good or bad? I would have to say BAD.

By the way,
if 2-3 weeks or more is unacceptable to wait for parts for a seven year old bike, you may be unpleasantly surprised when you find yourself waiting for a Hon/Yam/Kaw/Suz part of that era.....

my god, log 8O , such blasphemy!
as log says, these bikes can be not only intense performance wise as well as mechanically. and if you are not prepared for it, a bad experience will prolly ensue. if you enjoy a high performance machine and you love to tinker with all things mechanical, and don't mind occasional disappointment, go for it. this is me speaking as the owner of an '02 fx650e. parts are only a phone call away.

I love my 02 650, it still won't start on the leccy starter (dutch clog being sorted now) but starts on the kicker no probs and has more power than you could ever want offroad.

good luck Jay

i agree with eric

unless you can be sure that many mods have been done then you're walking into trouble with a 7 year old bike. the doc is virtually about those three years!

just to remind you of what you need:
the stators go so sparks stator needed for 100% satisfaction
the cam follower bearings go becauseof 2 factors a) the viscious cam, and b) the over strong springs that snap anyway
the carb parts wear out
the leccy boot is weak and needsbeefing up
the batteries were YTX5L's butgo to a modern gel cel/AGm CTZ7s
the spragues can't cope
the freewheels can't cope
the intermediate shaft bearing, the cam bearings, can also all fail if left 9 years (poor *******s!)
camchains are liquorice unless IWIS.
tensioner blades should be upgraded to '03+
harder to upgrade the clutch drum so you find it difficult to select neutral
ignition timing is wrong - can be changed easily
nipple on CCT wears away easily but can be simnplyremoved with the later blade fitted (see above)

youcan keep working and working on these. so unlessyou have had a bloody good rebuild done with upgrades - you're walking on egg shells!

ha ha ha ha take a look at my gallery and then tell me you wouldnt want an 02 fs650e, my brothers (in the pics with mine) is an 05 fs650e which has just had a rebuild due to main bearing collapsing, piston and liner scored and afew other bits an bobs to get it back on the road which shouldnt happen to a 05 so im told. just been out for 2hrs round the country lanes up by the windmill farm near burnley, keighley and halifax with my brother and his mate on an 08 aprillia sv550 supermoto, the old huserberg plodding away keeping up with the newer berg and the fuel injected aprillia when the sv550 decided enough was enough and bang ooooooooooooops, so he had to get a mate with a trailer to come pick it up, the moral of this story is my 02 starts first time, goes like **** off a stick never had to do anything with it mechanically except service regularly and check everything hence the fact it was the 02 that came home. so lets hear it for the eeeerrrrrrr bad bad bad 02s that should be put to rest according to some on the forum

How long ago did Dale lineaweaver rebuild the motor ? Search here for posts from Dale and you will find his phone number and email address. get in touch with him and see what exactly he did to it.

define the term: "rebuild" while you are there. and is it an ex-barry sheen works bike while you're there as well.

eems little point in calling dale is it wil bear little relevance to today and quite frankly may even give a false sense of security given the passing of time.

As I was told the motor was "race prepped" and made to be more reliable by Dale. The bike was built to race Pikes Peak and has a total of about 40 hours since new.
Trued and balanced crank
Flowed and constucted head
Trans Mod
Carb Bored , modified, and flowed
Blueprint, Modify (as required), and constucted Bottom end
Ferrera parts were used in the valve train
X-1 Cam for a more linear delivery
Cam Follower Pt#200-324-01
Schleinbecker Intake
Diamond Grip (I don't know what this is???)
H-Duty Timing Chain
No E-Start Parts

The hour meter was added when race prepped and reads 34 hours. I haven't heard anything bad about Dales work, so that reassures me also. And has not be raced only trail ridden in the last two years.

Thanks Jay

the valves will be be kibblewhite diamond valves on the exhaust perhaps?
at a guess a 200-324-01 is a later cam follower bearing or rocker arm but that number might have been valid for literally one-year before it got a KTM suffix.

should be good machine

god luck
