1st gear grabbing/snatching clutch FE450

I may have spoke about this before and someone said it was normal. I just wanted to confirm.

Sometimes, hot or cold in low gear the clutch grabs or snatches the bike forward in a jerky way. not a smooth slip. a bit like watching a learner find the clutch bite lol.

It doesn't do it all the time which is odd but when it does do it its always in 1st or 2nd when setting off. some times its ok but just every now and then it does it.

My mate says its not right, others say its normal. It doesn't bother me much as its not often but if the clutch is waring then maybe i should be changing it. But because its not all the time i figured it was something else?

Thanks

Haven't experienced any on/off jumpy grabbiness on mine, just the feel of a "tight" clutch that will lurch and grab a little in gear when cold.

Nonetheless what you descrive might be within the range of normal - i don't know - but at least not all of them do it?

Just to be sure - when the clutch lever is at a steady position and not being moved, and gears are not being changed, it feels unevenly lurchy? Like "something else" is working the clutch?

when the clutch is 'out' as in hands off and I'm in gear its fine.

when the clutch is in 'lever pulled' its also fine and doesn't want to move.

at the bite of the clutch, when in a low gear (1 or 2) some times it snatches/grabs. I'm trying to think of another way to explain.

if you imagine the linear slip from clutch in to out. its not like analogue, it goes from no friction to friction. digital 0 to 1.

I guess ill just have to strip it for a good look.

Have you had the plates out? What is the fluid like? I would take Jon's advise and pull the cover if it hasn't been apart. Friction Plate (steel) might have damage or be thin (Warped as mentioned earlier) I have had lots of air in systems and never felt anything as you described and slave just release or engage but not on off as you describe. Basket wear can lead to a strange feeling as well. Please do let us know what you find :)

I would look at the steels as KFS says and after that I would upgrade to 650 clutch springs. the springs may have gone weak.

Would weak springs give the lurch or just slip the clutch plates??? FWIW I really would lean towards the friction plates being damaged. and grabbing the clutch discs.

I am sure you will find out when you get it apart as what ever is doing this should jump right out at ya as not much to it.

Thanks guys, as soon as i get some good weather ill let you know with pics. i don't have any indoor workspace.

weak springs would make the clutch bounce when the lever is held half in and half out.

if you can't speak properly on other threads to people don't start here. stay away from me altogether. you choose.

but to denegrate me in one post and then try and and have meaningful interjections in the next isn't on. one or the other.

I have no idea what your issue is now FELLA, But I was asking a question Taffy. I was asking if the springs would create this catch and no catch or if it would just slip?? If you actually read this post then you would have noticed that I noted the STEEL PLATE issue prior your comment about the steel plates, and about staying away FELLA, It was you who got involved and not me.

And about speaking properly, I try to help the ones here who are having issues, I am not here to sell my magic parts as you are, so lets not go there FELLA.

As of my post in the other forum, It is my right to comment on my feelings about back yard shops and my feelings about dealers. This is my right and just because I don't like the fact that your whole sole purpose here is to gain and prosper from others and every question you answer is to buy your parts, does not give you the right to tell me to go or stay away from anything.

" YES I DO NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT EVERY SECOND ANSWER YOU GIVE TO USERS IS TO JUST STOP WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT AND BUY YOUR MAGIC BEANS, "BUT FACT IS" I HAVE MADE THIS CLEAR AND WHEN ONE STATES THEY HAD ISSUES I CAN AND WILL COMMENT. YOU CAN ALSO BE REASSURED THAT I AINT GOING NOWHERE FELLA AND WILL COMMENT. JUST BECAUSE WE DONT AGREE ON YOUR MAGIC BEANS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE CANT BE CIVAL TO EACH OTHER, I WAS BEING NICE AND ASKING A QUESTION AS WE BOTH ARE ON THIS FORUM AND WILL MEET ON POSTS THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I MUST LIKE YOUR SHOP AND OR PARTS JUST BECAUSE WE ARE IN A CONVERSATION ABOUT HELPING SOMEONE OUT"

TAFFY THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU YA *******, THIS IS ABOUT HELPING FELLOW USERS, JUST BECAUSE WE DONT GET ALONG DOES NOT MEAN WE BOTH CANT WORK TOGETHER TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE.

I AM HERE TO HELP USERS WITH ISSUES ANY WAY I CAN AND NOT HERE TO BE YOUR BUDDY AND HELP YOU SELL ****.

Please do let us know what you come up with and we all try to help the best we can without prejudice. :)

Allot are here to help other solve their issues as easy as possible and get back rolling :)

who wrote the DOC?

the doc is several thousand words of good free advice to everyone on this site. I did it, shame that Zen is such an arse and can't be bothered to put it back up.

WOW congrats to you, But has nothing to do with the fact on hand now does it? Still doesn't make me agree and I am sure I am not alone :) That I don't agree with you marketing on a free forum for personal gain.

I kind of think maybe the "Doc" was a marketing ploy but who knows for sure? Is it really free advise is the question?

what a tommy tit

hopefully someone will one day call you out for the complete twit you are!

your opinion will be seen by most as the biased waffle that it is.

your views aren't worth listening too, there is no knowledge base.

as my mother would say: Empty vessels make the most noise.

Well I think you are trying to call me out are you not? Allot like my views and seems that you are the only one on this forum with issues against me than what does this tell you? I sure see allot of users bashing you and not liking your help tactics.

Anyways hope that ZEN posts you doc back up so you can feel good about yourself.

Have a great day and keep up the good Magic Bean sales as that's all you have :)
