Does everyone take the perforated screen out of the end of the silencer? I'm sure it keeps the sound down but it sounds like a running a leaf blower through a straw.

that is up to you but eliminates the spark arrestor, the muffler itself is somewhat restrictive. It would be better to install an aftermarket unit with an approved spark arrestor

I leave mine in. Indeed, I safety wired it in. The last thing I want to do is start a fire where I ride.

I don't notice any difference in sound.

Mine vibrated out on my 450 and 570. They are a little bit louder but not a lot. No differance in performance that I noticed.

No, the exhaust tip screen is not a spark arrestor although it will pass the rod test commonly used to detect screen-type spark arrestors.

I don't find the stock muffler at all unsatisfactory but for its lack of spark arrestor.

It doesn't have the official stamp of approval, but I bet it functions as well as an approved one and I would also bet that this is its intended function. As such, I would rather leave it in.

I have a 09 450fe and ride with the screen out, even with it out a recent sound test was measured at 92 dec. I feel a difference in throttle response when jumping water, ditch or rut crossings. Running a gear lower is not a problem and has plenty of bark. I ran one day with a buddy and removed it and re-installed it and both of us noticed a difference of power gain. So its out, as far as a spark arrestor goes I remember reading why we have spark arrestors,,,and was based on the old locomotives spewing out sparks out of the stack causing forest fires.(an article in an old dirt bike magazine).

I have considered putting it back in to see if less is more when it comes down to lap times in tight woods or slippery events as the bike produces plenty of power when required. Good wheelie machine!!! Even better bike!!!

I'm surprised that the stock muffler doesn't have a built-in Krisman type spark arrestor like its KTM EXC cousins! Most KTM riders remove that basically nonfunctional screen as well. The stock KTM muffler breathes quite well without the screen.

Just this last weekend at the Fort Rock Enduro the BLM OHV rep that sound tested my bike told me I could remove the screen because there is a built in spark arrestor, secured by the screw that is in the middle of the can. I always believed that there was no spark arrestor? Some actual clarification from Husaberg would be nice, no?

or you could look in the spare parts manuel?

doesnt appear to be a spark arrestor, though i was looking at the manuel for euro bikes.

The 09 did not come with a spark arrestor & with a factory connecting pipe
we stock will let you remove all the crap from the middle section & install a pro moto
billet end cap with removable screen also in stock, end cap color blue.
Price 260.00 also need a little extra packing stuffed inside. Much better a less heat.
2010 bikes come with a spark arrestor turbine style.

Can you use just the Pro Moto Cap on the 2010 bikes like the FX? If so, just order the one for KTM?

I have never once in my life seen a spark come out of an exhaust from someone trail riding.
Better safe than sorry, and the fine for being caught without one in a public area requiring one, is substantial. Not to mention that if you do actually cause a fire, and they can trace it to you, then you better have good insurance because they'll gut your net worth. It isn't cheap fighting fires, nor is the damage small.

Personally, I prefer to ride in green forests with brown dirt, not black ones with ash.
