hi all,
to cut a long story short, the forks on my bike don't seem to be ridding the rocks and tree roots very well ,i.e feeling very harsh .i weigh 14 st 8 pounds with gear on.does anyone know what to set the compression, rebound or spring rate at to give me a startup point as suspension baffles me?

The 2 main issues you are dealing with is a too soft stock rear spring. About a 9.2 would be OK I think. This unloads the front and causes some of the problems you are having. The other issue is that the valving has too much high speed compression for average riders in snotty terrain. Back the fork compression adjusters right out, about 20+ clicks OTTMOH. And the shock HSC. A revalve is the only proper solution, and probably 0.46 springs, although others will suggest heavier, the 0.46s work for me, and I weigh a little more.

Check the doc for suspension setup cheat sheets.

get the user manual and follow the suspension settings to get the bike to suit your weight then go for a thrash and if its harsh and jolting on the front it means your compression is to hard so back it of 2-3 clicks and then try again,

if the back if jumping about left to right all loose and uncontrolable back off the rebound so it does not bounce back when it hits a bump, that is a basic start VERY BASIC, so everyone relax its a start and could solve your problem with out doing a complete over haul on the suspension?

feel free to correct me ppl :)

the stock suspension shim setup is really really bad but it can be made to work really really well with some diddling.

Steve is onto it  , stiffer shock spring and at a miniumum get the forks revalved + stiffer fork springs.

From [email protected], I am 230 lbs 6 foot and a pretty good bush rider , i have an 08 FE 450E HUSABERG ,

I ride Canadian style rocky mountain bush , Vedder mountain to Merrit B.C. , a look at what is working for me is , I’ve put in a JD jet kit using the settings posted in the instructions for my area. i.e. BLUE needle and I set the air /fuel screw under the carb. 1.85 turns out. My forks are set to give me a nice cushion ride over everything from woops to climbing vertical rocks in a heart beat. The front forks top and bottom screws are turned totally out and then 6 clicks in each this is soft enough but not to soft. The
Rear shock is again turned all out and back in 6 clicks top and 5 clicks bottom, I didn't touch the top large nut on the forks or the rear shock large nut, these I left stock.

Well it works for me .
