07 FS650E and 4.25 inch rear wheel

it looks as though I am heading towards a 07 vs the 05 550 option I had but I will be changing out the black wheels for silver and wanted to ask why the 07's list the rear as a 4.25 vs previous years 5.00.

I would prefer the wider wheel but wish to know if there are real fitment issues. From pics it would appear the 06 carried a guide to keep the chain off the rear tire - the 07 doesn't have this guide....

For 06 and 07, the c models come with a 5" rear rim; the e model come with the 4.25". Rumor has it certain customers didn't like the rub marks on the muffler so the put the skinnier rim on the street bikes. I do not believe there is any special chain guide on either.

Unfortunately true.
I was told by the "international sales manager" David that the germans was really upset by the tire rub that the austrians decided to go back to the 4.25" rear.
For the 07 models the welding jigs for the frames have been modified as well for better fit. I haven't seen any special guides for chain on any models...
 
In this image you can see a chain guide on the back side that looks like it was intended to deal with tire conflict issue rather than chain sprocket feed issues.

I am please to hear the 5" wheel shouldn't be a problem.

That's just a plastic chainguard in that pic. The Berg has no chain rub issues like the KTM's do, I promise!

06 "c" models come with a full e-start and charging systems, minus a reglator/rectifier. I stopped using the Battery Tender just "to see" and the batt still has full power after a few months and a bunch of races...

FYI-The street wire harness takes about 10 minutes to swap in place of the race harness, too... :)
 
2005 650 FE models do have chain rub on the inside of the frame. There are pics on a forum post somewhere.

I am presently trying to locate a 06 650c in western Canada (no luck yet) and it would be a great help to have a list of required parts to get it all prep'd for registering on the road - you wouldn't happen to have a list like that would you? :)

I cannot understand why instead of pushing the can a few mm outwards, they fit a narrow rim. Especially not when Aprilia are fitting 5,5" to their bikes. I do indeed have Chainrub on my 04FC450 with a 5" rear, but not much. The can however is rather black I must admit :)

I've also mounted the rear wheel one or two mm offset in the rear arm as well.
 
So if I buy an 07' 650e I won't be able to use as much tire? Sounds pretty stupid. Is there a lighting kit I could buy for a 650c? Why the hell would anyone want a 4.25 inch wheel...........
 
I dont really have anything to contribute to this thread,its just that likely I will never get this close to jesus again.
