01 fs650 oil consumption?

Hi guys, quick question realating to the 01 650 engine, ice been out for a 100 Mike trip Greenlaning today, bike ran great, but I have noticed it's burnt a fair amount of oil.

Thought somethibg was amiss the other day when I finished up the bike, in prep for mot. Full service, put a litre of oil in (15w40 motorex) and rode to the not and back. 6 miles in total, thought before heading out properly I will flush th oik through again to make sure it's clean. Only drained out 750ml after the 6 miles...??
Thought either I had a filled it wrong or perhaps the bottle wasn't a correct 4l fill.. So anyway, assumed I'd measured wrong.

Put in definitely a litre this time around, went out today, halfway around noticed I could see the level in my sight glass which when full you can't. Got me worried so took it easy and kept checking the level on the way home.
Back at the workshop, drained it again and got out 800ml.. So I'm Co fused as to where my oil is going.
No smoke. No leaks. No rattles or knocks, Runs great.

Any advise? Are they known for burning oil, or am I overfilling to start with?

Cheers and TIA

I think you're using oil. they want 1 ltr from dry and about 900cc for a simple drop and re-fill.

check that you have a sponge in your oil trap breather over the engine. if over-filling, that is where it goes.

clean the inside of the frame tube up a little and then test again.

Thanks for that taffy.
I have been overfilling by 100ml then as both times have been a oil drain and refill. I only changed the oil filter the first time.

Will do as you recommended and report back. Also read in another thread, something about a crankcase breather mod. So going to look into what that is and whether or not I could benifit from it.

+1 What Taffy says I only seems to manage 900ML back in my 2007 650 with filter drop also. Thats about 100% full on sight glass,To be fair it gets changed every 4/5 road rides but haven't noticed any consumption myself! not that I measure exactly.

Whip your aifilter off and look inside the frame, youl more than likely see a small puddle of oil in the carb boot, notorious for chucking oil up through the breather when being spanked

Done as was mentioned above and yes I have a little pool of oil in my carb boot, so atleast i know now where it's going!
Thanks for the pointers.
Hopefully it's also related to th bike taking a few more turns to start today. Been fantastic up until today when it took a bit to get going. Carb needs a thorough clean and tune though as It cut out on me doing 70 tonight. Fuel starvation! Next job on the list is to sort that out!
