Had my first look at an '09 450 in the flesh yesterday. The rear plastic subframe is quite large and is hollow. While it has a number of bolts holes with attachments going into it, it did seem like there is a lot of potential to make it fuel tight

If that could be done and plumbed into the main tank, it could easliy hold another 5 -7 litres by the look of it. That would be a great thing to be able to get 13 - 15 L out of the bike with the stock bodywork. The material of the subframe looks the same as the main tank itself.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on the practicalities of this :?:

I wont get a chance to take a bike apart for another 2 weeks yet, Soooo if you have one and are pulling it apart at all, let me know what you think.

Gazza, once again your right on track with what has been talked about for additional

capacity!! Hope to get something started on this issue next week!!!

I will report back to your thread as soon as possible.Thank's for all the rally data

given for all to read, I find it to be the most exciting format of racing for testing bike &

rider alike.I sure hope this added tank capacity issue will get solved in short order so

we will be able to compete in all types of off road adventures with our new technical

weapon!

Hi Rick, yeah keep me posted with what you find or come up with.

It wont be enough for rallye racing as we will still need a minimum fuel range of 250km, so we are still going ahead to make a main tank that will get us up to 22 - 23 litres all up, but it would help a lot to use that space for better distribution and reduce the size of the tank up front. Cheers

Ok,Hey Gazza is auqualine going to be the ones who will make the larger tank?

I purchased there 7.9 gallon tank for my super enduro 950 & could not have asked

for anything better!!!! Very impressed with there quality, look & fitment!!

that's the plan soon as we can get a bike to them to check it out etc.

They are keen to have a go at it and we should be able to get them a bike in the next couple of weeks to measure up etc for doing the moulds.

One more thing Gazza . Is a six gallon tank what you are looking for to be on the safe

side?

Not sure about the conversion to your US gallons, but we need about 22 - 24 litres in total, something about that size.

none at present still waiting for the bieks to get here to give to the tank manufacturer to fit up.

They should be ready for sale late Jan early Feb '09

If the rear can become a tank then this will be the bike for me 100%. The desert rallyes (Tuareg, El chott, Alto Turia) that I do only require a capacity between 13-17L and the regulations seem to be going towards lower capacities for safety (ie weight reasons). I did the Tuareg rallye with a 13L front tank and 5L rear tank and didn't have to use the rear one.
I understand in Aus there are a few wide open spaces so the bigger capacity is needed. How much fuel approx will the 2009's hold if the rear sub frame can be utilised for fuel. If it's around 15L I'd buy one today, I've been erring towards the orange or a 2008 Husabrg with clarke tank, as a 13L tank keeps the bike so compact and a dream to ride. I tried a mecasystems 525 with the tanks full and it was like a boat in the dunes.

Gazza I can't wait to see your 2009 Rallye bike, are you planning any African rallyes next year?

There is a couple of us that want to hit the Pharaohs rallye in Oct 09 :hathat11:

Mind you a Berg in 2010 El Dakaro in Sth America would be pretty cool as well :hathat2:

Im guessing looking at between 5-6 L so that would be around 13-14 L with the stock body work.............as you say it would make the 570 a perfect bike for the rallye enduro cup class at Optic 2000 etc

Subframe tank

I've had a look at mine to see how it could be done. If the subframe is fuel tight.

Filling is done from the original filler. Speed of fill would depend on the size of the breather and balance hose. This would give about 13lts total.

I will look at this for Finke and Condo next year.
